Thursday is Veterans Day, and area residents will join people across the country in honoring U.S. military service members. Programs, ceremonies and special meals for veterans are among the events being held Thursday in the Marshall region.
In Marshall, Veterans Day observances will include a short program at the Adult Community Center.
The Veterans Day program will begin at 11 a.m. at the ACC.
The schedule of events at surrounding area communities includes:
Balaton
A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Balaton Community Center.
Canby
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday on the Minnesota West Canby campus. Retired Sgt. 1st Class Derrick Ruether will be the keynote speaker.
Also, a community Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Canby High School gymnasium. The Canby FFA will offer a free breakfast for veterans and their spouses in the old gym from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
Cottonwood
A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Lakeview School main gymnasium. Retired Lt. Col. Joe Errington will be the keynote speaker. The public is invited to attend. The program will also be streamed online at http://www.youtube.com/lakerevents.
Minneota
A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Edward School gymnasium.
Also, the dedication of a new statue at Veterans Memorial Park in Minneota will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Lynd
A Veterans Day program will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lynd Public School.
Slayton
A Veterans Day program will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Murray County Central High School.
Tracy
A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tracy Area High School. Community members are invited to attend.
Tyler
A Veterans Day assembly will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at RTR School. The event is open to the community and will also be livestreamed through Christensen Broadcasting at christensenbroadcasting.com.
Also, a Veterans Day supper will be held at 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Tyler American Legion Hall.
Walnut Grove
A Veterans Day program will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westbrook-Walnut Grove Elementary.
Westbrook
A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Westbrook-Walnut Grove High School.
