Freedom 44, Easton 14 – Rapid Recap

The Freedom train kept rolling on Friday night.

The third-seeded Patriots football team dominated sixth-seeded Easton during a 44-14 victory in the District 11 Class 6A quarterfinals at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.

Turning point: Easton failed to get a first down on its first two possessions. The Red Rovers’ second punt traveled 13 yards and set Freedom up at the visitors’ 22-yard line.

Five straight running plays put the Patriots in the end zone. Tailback Deante Crawford’s 1-yard touchdown capped the short drive with 5:40 left in the first quarter.

Freedom struck with a big play on its next offensive series, as Brian Taylor found Owen Johnson wide open for a 52-yard TD that pushed the lead to 14-0 with 1:27 to go in the opening period.

The Patriots scored the game’s first 30 points and took a 30-7 lead into halftime.

Top performers: Crawford, who left the contest with an injury in the second half, had 193 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.

Taylor only completed four passes, but two were touchdowns. He also ran for a score.

Freedom’s defense held Easton to 275 yards, 156 of which came after the Patriots had a 37-7 advantage. Lorenzo Feliciano, Alexie Sangster and Sampson Neuffer each had an interception for Freedom.

What it means: Freedom (9-2) advances to next week’s D-11 semifinals, where it’ll meet second-seeded Northampton, which defeated Pleasant Valley 21-7.

Easton moves to 5-4 on the year and will prepare for its Thanksgiving Day clash with Phillipsburg.
