Northwood University students are celebrating the university’s ninth Freedom Week on Oct. 24-26.
Freedom Week is the biggest undergraduate student-led conservative and libertarian forum. During the first eight editions of Freedom Week, more than 200 champions of liberty discussed the beauty, efficiency and justice of a global free enterprise society based on individual freedoms and personal responsibility.
In addition to the guest lectures, students wrote a letter with policy recommendations to President Donald Trump. They also petitioned more than 1,000 candidates for Congress to end the unconstitutional practice of delegating legislative authority to bureaucrats; to resist the attempts of the U.S. Supreme Court to make laws from the bench; and to end the abuse of the Commerce Clause. Also, students raised awareness about how capitalism solves environmental problems more effectively than the political process. They also created hundreds of free market videos for the Stossel in the Classroom competitions and won several prizes.
“To secure our unalienable rights against political tyranny, Northwood University students are once again stepping up to the plate by hosting speakers from Students for Liberty and Americans for Fair Taxation to our campus this fall in support of our school’s mission to increase the number of people who love liberty and who know how to defend it,” stated Dr. Alex Tokarev, faculty advisor for Turning Point USA and Freedom Week student executive board.
Jade Walle, of Americans for Fair Taxation, will present a proposal for a fair tax reform at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and noon Oct. 24 and 25. All are welcome to join virtually at https://bluejeans.com/693375037.
