Every day I look at a framed picture of my father (who I never really knew) in his Marine uniform, along with the following letter:
“In grateful memory of James Lawrence Jensen — United States Marine Corps — Who Died In The Service Of His Country At — Peleliu Island, Palau Islands, 27 September 1944 — He stands in the unbroken line of patriots who have dared to die that freedom might live, and grow, and increase its blessings. Freedom lives, and through it, he lives — in a way that humbles the undertakings of most men. Signed, Franklin D. Roosevelt, President of the United States”
My question is, if not to defend the democracy of this country, then what did my father die for?
Donald Trump, who can never be called a patriot, is a threat to our democracy. Trump is incapable of leading this country. He’s destroying the democratic process, undermining the justice system, dividing this country and failing as a leader during a global pandemic.
My father only got to vote once in his short life. So, I’m asking every eligible voter to claim your constitutional freedom that my father and brave men have fought for.
Please cast your vote in November and elect a president who will actually lead our country.
