Florida added 10,431 COVID-19 cases and 91 deaths Saturday, bringing the death total to 19,327.
More than 1 million people have been infected with the virus in Florida since March.
On average the state has reported 9,192 cases and 93 deaths per day this week. The number of deaths added each day does not necessarily reflect the number of people who died the previous day, as it can take officials up to two weeks to confirm and report coronavirus-related deaths.
Hospitalizations: There were 4,341 people in Florida hospitals Saturday afternoon with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, according to the Agency for Health Care Administration, with 868 people of them in Tampa Bay hospitals.
The state health department recorded 231 new admissions Saturday, with 49 in the Tampa Bay area.
About 24 percent of regular hospital beds and 21 percent of adult intensive care unit beds were open statewide. In Tampa Bay, about 24 percent of regular hospital beds and 18 percent of adult ICU beds were available.
Positivity: Johns Hopkins University recorded Florida’s positivity rate at 8.81 percent Friday. The university recently changed its calculation method to more closely match the health department’s measurements.
States should maintain a positivity rate of 5 percent or less for at least two weeks before loosening social distancing protocols, according to the World Health Organization. This positivity rate indicates testing is widespread enough to capture mild and asymptomatic cases. The District of Columbia and five states currently meet this metric, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Local numbers: Tampa Bay added 1,827 coronavirus cases and 22 deaths Saturday.
Pasco County reported five deaths, while Hillsborough and Citrus counties reported four deaths each. Polk and Manatee counties reported three deaths each. Pinellas County reported two deaths and Hernando County reported one death.
According to the latest counts, Hillsborough has 60,761 cases and 964 deaths, Pinellas has 34,603 cases and 928 deaths, Polk has 28,918 cases and 702 deaths, Manatee has 17,606 cases and 394 deaths, Pasco has 15,948 cases and 292 deaths, Hernando has 5,342 cases and 230 deaths, and Citrus has 5,096 cases and 182 deaths.
