How AA Bowl Declaration Day could impact 247Sports Rankings - 247Sports

rintongs.blogspot.com

Eight of the nation’s top prospects will announce their college decision this coming Saturday during the All-American Bowl’s Declaration Day, broadcasted live on NBC.

Three five-stars are on the docket headlined by the 247Sports Composite’s No. 1 overall prospect in defensive end Korey Foreman, along with the top available offensive tackle in Tristan Leigh and the No. 1 inside linebacker in the land Terrence Lewis make their anticipated decisions. Top247 recruits also ready to declare include cornerback Ceyair Wright, linebacker Wynden Ho'ohuli, defensive ends Elijah Jeudy and Deonte Anderson and safety Jardin Gilbert. So is offensive tackle Armon Bethea.

The event will begin at 3 p.m. (EST), and should have a significant impact on the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.

Can LSU pass Georgia and move back into the No. 3 spot?

Can Clemson pass both and go to No. 3 itself?

Texas A&M and USC could see big days too.

We look at all that and everything in between.

The battle for No. 3

Let’s start with Ed Orgeron and the Tigers who will start the day at No. 4 with a score of 289.94, trailing Georgia’s 294.84. They’ll be a hat on the table for Foreman but not expected to be the destination. However if they land Leigh the 247Sports Class Calculator boosts their score to 297.69. Score both Leigh and Gilbert and that takes it to 299.11. Just Gilbert alone is a slight rise to 291.76. Tracking for a third-straight Top 5 class, this day could go a long way towards those efforts.

There was a time where Clemson looked like the one to beat for Foreman and Leigh. Foreman committed back in January during a visit and Leigh was on campus that same weekend also thinking strongly about playing for Dabo Swinney and his staff. However by May, Foreman had decommitted and for whatever reason they starting fading with Leigh as well. But there has been a resurgence for the ACC power in both recruitments. Foreman visited Clemson at the end of November and Swinney and company ramped up the communication with Leigh. They’ll start the day with the country’s No. 5 class with a score of 282.31. Add Foreman and that mark goes to 291.99. Add just Leigh and it’s 291.42. Pull them both and the score rises to 300.46 surging past LSU and Georgia. The Tigers finished No. 3 in 2020 and are obviously in striking distance of doing that again.

Will USC close strong

The Trojans are holding strong at No. 14 nationally with a score that reads 252.68. They are trending on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Foreman. If they add him they’d rise three spots to No. 11. They also lead on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Wright. The combination of Foreman and Wright takes the score up to 271.85, which would catapult the Trojans up to No. 7 if nothing changes with Texas A&M who enters the day there with a mark of 271.02.

The Aggies are one to watch

But we don’t expect the Aggies to strike out. They are considered the heavy favorite for Jeudy, who if he does choose to play his college football in College Station would see the score rise to 274.28. Also a potential landing spot for Gilbert, he would take the score to 276.17. Jimbo Fisher and his staff are tracking for a third-straight Top10 class and a potential second Top 5 haul over the same span.

The Leigh factor

Besides LSU and Clemson, Leigh is giving a strong look to Florida, Ohio State and Oklahoma. The Gators are looking for a third-straight Top10 class and begin the day No. 10 with a score of 265.69. He would take their score to 274.97. If it’s the Buckeyes who are trying to reel in Alabama from the No. 2 spot with a score of 310.39, OSU’s score would move to 316.31. The Sooners have the No. 9 class as they pursue a fourth Top10 class in the last five cycles with a score of 268.07. They happen to be the 247Sports Crystal Ball favorite for Leigh and a verbal from him would propel the score to 279.68.

Two battling for Lewis

Lewis lists a top two of Maryland and Tennessee. The Vols have the country’s No. 15 class while the Terrapins are at No. 19, the highest they’ve been since finishing No. 18 in 2017. A former Tennessee commit, if Lewis finds his way back to Knoxville the Vols would see their score improve to 255.65. The Terps have a score of 216.67. Lewis would take their score to 230.09 and bump them to No. 18.

More items to pay attention to

Nebraska is holding strong at No. 25 in pursuit of a fifth-straight Top25 class. Ho’ohuli is trending towards the Huskers on the 247Sports Crystal Ball and would improve their score from 207.95 to 216.36 which would take them up to No. 20.

The last school prominently in the thick of the Foreman sweepstakes is Arizona State. The Sun Devils, like the Tigers, got Foreman to campus late in the season. If Foreman were to join their class he’d skyrocket ASU from No. 46 to No. 30 in the standings. Arizona State leads on the 247Sports Crystal Ball for Bethea. Land both and the Sun Devils would finish the day at No. 27, pushing for a second-straight Top25 class. Herm Edwards and his staff have just 14 commits at this point in the cycle, the smallest class of any program ranked in the Top50.

Wright has a top seven that besides the Trojans also includes the likes of Michigan, Oregon and Notre Dame. If Clemson strikes out and the Ducks land Wright they'll pass the Tigers for the No. 5 class nationally. The eighth-ranked Irish are less than a point ahead of the Sooners in the standings going into that announcement. The Wolverines who are at No. 12 would push past the Gators and into the Top10 if they land the West's top cornerback.

Anderson is trending towards Mississippi State who has the country's No. 37 class nationally.
