Pokémon Go’s Machop Community Day takes place on Jan. 16 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time.

As usual with Community Days, the featured Pokémon will be showing up a lot in the wild, with a high chance for it to be Shiny.

How do I get a Shiny Machop?

Since Machop will be popping up everywhere, just tap every Machop you see until you get a Shiny one. You’ll find one sooner or later, as the Shiny rate on Community Days is boosted to about a one in 24 rate.

What special move does Machamp learn when it’s evolved?

When evolved from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Jan. 16, Machamp will learn Payback. This dark-type move will not affect Machamp’s raiding skill, but will have some uses in PvP.

How do I make the most of this Community Day?

Machop’s Community Day has a bonus that triples Stardust received from catching Pokémon, so it’ll be worth popping a Star Piece as you catch the Pokémon to increase your gains even more.

Trading range will also be increased to 40 kilometers from Jan. 15 until Jan. 18. Trade with any friends within that distance to get rid of the 100 Candy requirement to evolve Machoke to Machamp. Any Machoke you trade will be able to evolve without using candy, which is a great perk for anyone trying to build a beefy team of Machamp.

Machamp is best set with Counter and Dynamic Punch for taking gyms and raiding. Payback may be an OK move for PvP, as it’ll give it a good type matchup against ghost-type Pokémon.

If you’re deciding which Shiny Machop to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your ‘mons by “recent” using the lower right icon, and then type “4*” in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Machop. Most people won’t be so lucky, so next you’ll want to type “3*” in the search box, which will show you any recent ‘mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best, and then evolve your new buddy!
