CHOUDRANT, La. -- The High Point University men's golf team moved up one spot on the team leaderboard on day two of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Monday (Sept. 13). HPU was two-over on the day with a 290, improving from round one by a total of six strokes.

The duo of grad transfers in Avery Price and Stuart Fuller both went under par on Monday with scores of 70 and 71, respectively, giving Price the Panthers' lowest round of the young season. Fuller's 71 moved 18 spots up the individual leaderboard to tie with freshman Charlie Barr as the top High Point golfers in a share of 36th. Price was the biggest mover for the Purple and White, climbing 29 spots into a tie for 44th place and just one stroke behind Barr and Fuller. Christian Castillo finished with a 75 for the second consecutive round and Drew Weary improved by one shot with a 77 to finish out HPU's lineup.

"The guys scored well today and were all about one hole away from a very low score," head coach Brady Gregor said after the round. "Hopefully tomorrow we can put an under-par round together and make our final round roll-point charge."

Price got off to a strong start and put two birdies on his card in the first three holes. He then rattled off seven consecutive pars before his only blemish of the round, a double bogey on the par-5 11th, sent him back to even for the day. Price fought back into red numbers and picked up two more birdies before the day was done, getting one on hole 13 and the par-5 17th.

"I took it one shot at a time, stayed as patient as possible, and took advantage of opportunities when I could," Price said of his round. "I stayed positive and just had a lot of fun out there today."

Fuller carded a team-high five birdies on the day to bring his tournament total up to eight, tied with Price for the most among the Purple and White. His first of the day came on hole four but it was followed by a bogey on six and a double on seven before he rebounded with his second birdie of the event on the ninth hole. The back was much kinder to the Winston-Salem native as he bookended the nine holes with birdies and canceled out a bogey on the par-3 12th with a bird on 15 to play the back at two-under - the best any Panther played holes 10-18 over the first two rounds.

Barr had just one birdie on Monday but kept the big numbers off his card with only three bogeys. Like Fuller, he also birdied hole nine for the second round in a row, using it to get back to even for the day after a bogey on four. The freshman started the back with five straight pars before taking a bogey on 15 and another on 18 to finish the round at two-over.

Castillo carded two birdies in round two, just as he did in Sunday's first round, and became the third Panther to birdie hole nine for the second day in a row. His birdie on nine was a bounce back from a triple bogey on eight and brought him down to +4 after a pair of bogeys on holes three and seven. Castillo hopped on the par train after that and rattled off seven straight before picking up his final birdie of the round on 17, keeping all of his birdies on par-5s in the tournament.

Weary made the turn at two-over after bogeys on six and eight and took two more on back-to-back holes 12 and 13 before putting his only birdie on the card on hole 14. A double bogey directly followed the birdie and then three pars to finish his day at five-over with a 77.

A strong charge on Tuesday (Sept. 14) could propel the Panthers to a top-10 finish, with HPU currently sitting just eight shots away from the top 10. UTSA holds the 36-hole lead at -14 after going 16-under as a team on Monday, followed by hosts Louisiana Tech at -11 and LSU at -10.
