SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Jonathan Xoinis put together quite a debut for the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team today, pacing the Skyhawks in scoring through 36 holes of the Lone Star Invitational at TPC San Antonio.

A redshirt freshman out of Chattanooga, Tenn., Xoinis shot a 74 during the morning round before posting a 75 this afternoon. His 149 (+5) ranks 18th in the field of 75 players as he ranks in the top-10 in the event in par-4 scoring (4.05, +1, third) and birdies (eight, seventh) while accounting for a team-best 5.00 (E) par-5 scoring average.

Tying Xoinis for UT Martin's best score in the second round was true freshman Garrett Chumley, who shot a 75 this afternoon following a 76 in the morning session for a combined score of 151 (+7). The Murfreesboro, Tenn. native tapped in a team-high 23 pars on the day to go along with three birdies, topping the squad in par-3 scoring (3.13, +1).

"I am very proud of Jonathan and Garrett," Skyhawk head coach Austin Swafford said. "For their first collegiate event on this caliber of course, they handled themselves well and led the way for us today."

Senior Tate Chumley was 2-for-2 in countable scores today, shooting even-par through 15 holes in Round 1 before settling for a 76. He later tallied an 82 in the afternoon round, wrapping up his day with a 158 (+14) that included three birdies.

The third UT Martin representative to make his collegiate debut today was true freshman Cayden Chambers, who accounted for a team-best four birdies in the opening round on his way to a 76. He tacked on another birdie this afternoon while shooting an 86, giving him a Day 1 total of 162 (+18).

Completing the Skyhawk lineup was junior Bryson Morrell (163, +19), who played the front-nine at 1-under before accumulating a countable 82 in Round 2. His first round score of 81 included 12 pars – seven of which came on the course's back-nine.

As a team, UT Martin put together a 302 (+14) in Round 1, which ranked eighth in the 13-team field. Following a 314 (+26) in the second round, the Skyhawks are now sitting in 10th place with an overall tally of 616 (+40). Tournament host UTSA (573, -3) has a 16-shot lead going into tomorrow's final round as they were the only squad to shoot under par.

"We knew going in that this would be a great test of golf," Swafford said. "We had a few positives but also found some areas where we can improve moving forward. We are excited for the final round tomorrow."

Tomorrow's third round will start with an 8 a.m. shotgun start as UT Martin will be paired with Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern Louisiana on Holes 11-14.
