Oberlin, OH. – The Wheeling University Swimming team wrapped up their three-day event at the Oberlin College Invitational on Saturday with day three of the competition. There were 12 more events to wrap up the invite, and Wheeling would finish ninth in the field, scoring 328 points on the women's side of the event, and 55.5 points on the men's side of the event.

Freshman Jade Miller, who has had a big tournament to that point with two top five finishes, ended her time at Oberlin with her second first place finish of the event. In the preliminary round in the morning, Miller placed second in her field, posting a time of 2:11.93 in the 200-yard Backstroke. However, when it came to the finals later in the day, Miller was the one who would take the championship with a time of 2:10.24, beating her preliminary time by a full second. It wrapped up Miller's time at the invitational with two first place finishes and a fifth place finish in her three races over the course of three days. Meredith Mandal and Macie Williams also competed in solo events for the Cardinals, competing in the 200-yard Breaststroke and the 100-yard Freestyle. Mandal finished fifth overall in the Breaststroke (2:37.72) and Williams finished 20th in the Freestyle (57.88).

Ethan Banks would be the lone competitor for the men on day three of the event, competing in the men's 200-yard Backstroke. He posted a 2:10.69 mark in the preliminaries and earned a spot in the second field of swimmers for the finals. He would swim in group B at the event, and finished 14th overall with a time of 2.11.48. Banks finished his time at the Oberlin College Invitational competing in three different races and gaining experience. Wheeling finished the day competing in the Wen's 400-yard Freestyle Relay. The team of Williams, Mandal, Miller, and Elizabeth Strange finished ninth overall with a time of 3:59.63. They finished 14 seconds off the pace of the winner, Baldwin Wallace University. The Cardinals capped off the Oberlin College Invite, gaining experience against some strong Division II swimming teams.

The Wheeling University Swimming team wrapped up the 2021 portion of their schedule, and will hit the pool again in 2022. They open up the second half of their schedule on January 15th, when they head to Mountain East Conference foe West Virginia Wesleyan.
