CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The footprint of the Celebration of Freedom Fireworks in downtown Cedar Rapids will look different for the next two years.
Due to construction of the flood wall on the southeast side of the Cedar River, seating will change this year: it will be on the 3rd Ave. Bridge as well as the McGrath Amphitheatre.
No seating will be allowed on any other bridges including the 1st Ave. Bridge and 2nd Ave. Bridge. There will also be no seating on Plaza Park which is the grass area between the 2nd Ave. and 3rd Ave. Bridges.
The Freedom Festival says there will be no early seating due to safety reasons.
This summer, the organization is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and will conclude its three week-long festival with fireworks on July 4th.
Gates to the venue will open at 5 p.m. and music will begin at 5:30 p.m. Brass Transit Authority will take the stage first with Vibe headlining the evening's concert at 7 p.m.
The Celebration of Fireworks is a buttoned entry and buttons can be available to purchase at all area Hy-Vee Supermarkets, Drug stores, and Fast & Fresh gas stations for $10.
