WASHINGTON—President Trump will be featured each day of the Republican National Convention, say officials involved in planning it, a departure from previous nominating events when candidates were showcased on the final night.
Mr. Trump will accept the nomination on the final night of the four-day convention during a prime-time speech on Aug. 27 scheduled to be delivered from the White House grounds. But convention planners and campaign officials said Mr. Trump would be actively incorporated throughout the four-day convention, including one day when the president will honor doctors, nurses and other workers on the front line of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The week will feature speeches from the president’s four oldest children and first lady Melania Trump, who is scheduled to speak on Aug. 25, campaign officials said. Vice President Mike Pence will be the featured speaker on Aug. 26, delivering his remarks from Fort McHenry, the national monument in Baltimore best known as the site of a battle during the War of 1812 that inspired Francis Scott Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Other speakers during the week will include Sens. Tim Scott (R., S.C.) and Joni Ernst (R., Iowa), House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy of California and Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, officials said.
Campaign officials said many details of the convention hadn’t yet been completed. The pandemic has stymied large, in-person gatherings. The president’s early reluctance to move to a virtual convention delayed decision-making on venues and scheduling.
The week will feature a mix of prerecorded content from speakers’ homes and live speeches from in and around Washington, campaign officials said. Campaign officials said Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington would serve the convention hub for the week where some speeches would be delivered. Convention organizers said medical professionals were advising on Covid-related protocols for live events.

Speakers will focus on the economy, foreign policy and social issues that will be weaved throughout the week under the theme of “Honoring the Great American Story,” officials said. The daily themes will be “Land of Promise” on Aug. 24, “Land of Opportunity” on Aug. 25, “Land of Heroes” on Aug. 26 and “Land of Greatness” on Aug. 27.
Each day will also incorporate speeches from lesser-known Americans, who will credit Mr. Trump for changes in their own lives during the past four years or warn about the changes that would come from replacing him. The campaign is planning to feature former residents from Cuba or Venezuela, for example, who will admonish the policies of the Democratic Party, which the president has compared with socialism.
Some of those speakers will include St. Louis, Mo., police Sgt. Ann Dorn, whose husband, retired police captain David Dorn, was killed during protests in the city in June; Carl and Marsha Mueller, parents of Kayla Mueller, the humanitarian worker from Arizona who was captured and killed by Islamic State militants; and Tanya Weinreis, owner of a Montana coffee company that received loans from the Paycheck Protection Program.
