Over 400 University of Minnesota student-athletes attended the seventh-annual Pro Day Monday night. Pro Day is the Gopher Athletics department's largest job and networking event of the year. Held virtually for the first time since its 2014 inception, the Golden Gophers met with 30 Twin Cities organizations this year.

While the 2020 format was different, the goal remains: preparing student-athletes for life after college. Prior to the 2020 version, student-athletes met with recruiters and potential employers in person at TCF Bank Stadium. This year, all student-athletes and organizations registered through GoldPASS powered by Handshake to engage with preferred groups of interest.

In all, 406 student-athletes registered for the event. A total of 350 student-athletes attended group sessions where employers shared information about their organizations and 160 signed up for one-on-one sessions with specific recruiters. While the format was different, some student-athletes welcomed the change. Without waiting in line to speak to individuals, there was more time to meet and network with recruiters as well as get to know more about specific companies. From a recruiter standpoint, individuals were able to connect one-on-one better with student-athletes.   

Pro Day is just one of the possible activities that will satisfy the student-athlete career readiness requirement that will prepare them for life after college. Additional events will be made available for the student-athletes by Gopher Athletics as well as events by various U of M colleges around campus.
