MADISON, Wis. — With Thanksgiving one day away, Wisconsin has reported thousands of more COVID-19 cases throughout the state.
Health officials confirmed 5,025* new cases of the virus, a noticeable decline from Tuesday’s count. The amount is also below the seven-day rolling average of daily new cases, which is at 5,372 as of Wednesday afternoon.
The state has reached a lifetime total of 370,027* confirmed cases, with more than 75,000 of those still active.
The state Department of Health Services said the seven-day positivity rate has dropped to 28.3%, while the seven-day equivalent for total tests by day decreased to 13%.
At least 3,241* in the state have died of coronavirus complications since the start of the pandemic, with 51 more deaths recorded Wednesday. That’s less than half compared to Tuesday’s record-breaking number of deaths.
DHS officials said an additional 248 have been hospitalized. With 11,310 hospital beds in the state, 14% remain available.
As the coronavirus continues to surge through Wisconsin prisons, inmates in New Lisbon are calling for safer procedures.
