The 11,552 new coronavirus cases reported in Riverside County on Tuesday, Jan. 12, marked the largest one-day jump ever, data show.
There have been larger increases, but because the county does not update virus numbers on weekends, most holidays and other days when there have been technical issues, those increases have represented multiple days.
Riverside County now has 227,827 reported cases of the novel coronavirus.
Meanwhile, after approaching the threshold the past several weeks, the county’s test-positivity rate for the week ending Jan. 2 surpassed 25%, meaning at least 1 in 4 residents tested across those seven days were infected.
Riverside County’s mark of 25.1% ranked first in the state, with San Bernardino County a close second.
State data also show the county’s adjusted case rate at a high of 127.5 new cases per day per 100,000 residents.
County health officials reported 44 new deaths Tuesday.
Here are the latest numbers, according to state and county public health officials.

Metrics tracked by the state:
-
- ICU availability: 0.0% across Southern California
- New cases per day per 100,000 residents: 127.5
- Case rate adjusted for testing volume: 107.2
- Test positivity rate: 25.8% (27.6% in socioeconomically challenged neighborhoods)
- What that means: Southern California is under a stay-home order because of the low ICU availability. When that is lifted, Riverside County will return to a color-coded tier with restrictions based on the other metrics.
