CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer is set for a matchup with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday at Wish Field. The Alumni Day match is set for a noon kickoff and DePaul will host a special alumni reception under the 'L' tracks that will begin at 1 p.m. and will continue until women's soccer's match at 3:30.
The Blue Demons (3-2) are looking to get back into the win column after a 1-0 setback versus UIC on Wednesday afternoon. DePaul was riding a three-match win streak before being shut out on Wednesday. DePaul has been able to stifle opposing offenses, allowing five goals through five matches this season while posting a shutout in a 1-0 win over Wisconsin back on Sept. 5.
Blue Demon alums will be treated to a reception under the 'L' tracks beginning at 1:00 that will continue until the kickoff of the women's match versus Eastern Illinois. Alums can receive up to five complimentary tickets by submitting their RSVP here. DePaul claimed a 2-0 win over Providence on the last Alumni Day at Wish Field in 2019.
CRUZ SHINES IN NET
Sophomore goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz made back-to-back six-save performances versus Wisconsin and Bradley. With a 2-0 lead at Bradley and time winding down, Cruz stopped a penalty kick attempt to keep the Blue Demon lead padded. Minutes later, the Braves were awarded another attempt which was buried. Overall, DePaul has allowed only two traditional goals over the four three matches.
OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Jack Richards and Marek Gonda have led the offensive efforts for DePaul in the early going. Richards scored in the season opener versus Loyola and notched the game-winning goal in DePaul's victory versus Wisconsin, and scored to get the Blue Demons on the board versus Bradley. Meanwhile, Gonda scored twice in the Blue Demons' win versus St. Thomas and also extended the lead at Bradley in the Blue Demons' 2-1 victory. Gonda and Richards lead the squad with three goals apiece. DePaul's Santiago Rodriguez tallied DePaul's other strike, a go-ahead goal versus St. Thomas on Sept. 2.
