Football Hosts Lincoln (CA) For Senior Day This Saturday - WOU Athletics

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon University football team will honor their ten seniors this Saturday when they host Lincoln (CA) with kickoff set for 1:05 p.m. at McArthur Field.

Below are recaps of each seniors' careers during their time at WOU.

Curtis Anderson

Anderson has been a regular on the team since 2017 starting all 43 games of his career including today. The defensive back from Klamath Falls has been the ultimate dual-threat as he is one of the top kickoff return players in the country, in addition to his strong play in the secondary. Having earned multiple All-GNAC postseason awards both for his defensive and special teams plays, seven times Anderson has been named GNAC Player of the Week. So far in his career, Anderson has 169 tackles, 91 solo, 10.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 12 interceptions. On kickoff returns, Anderson has compiled 2,043 yards. This season, Anderson has 42 tackles, 20 solo, along with 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble, five quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. He has returned 22 kickoffs for 425 yards. 

Jakob Pruitt

Pruitt has been a regular along the offensive line since the 2018 season earning multiple All-GNAC honors for both his play on the field and in the classroom. From Beaverton, Ore., Pruitt saw time at center throughout the 2019 season and then moved to tackle this year, while also playing center when needed. This year he earned the academic conference honor for the fourth time in his career. Pruitt helped lead the offense to 3,564 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2018, 5,119 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2019 and 3,228 yards and 23 touchdowns so far this season.

Anthony Orlando

Orlando moved into a starting offensive tackle spot this season for the Wolves and has helped the team compile 3,228 total yards and 23 touchdowns so far this season. From San Francisco, Calif., Orlando saw some time right away as a true freshman in 2017 and has played throughout his career along the offensive line for the Wolves.

Andrew Gross

Gross has spent time as the main punter throughout the past three seasons and was also the main kicker for the Wolves during the 2019 season. From Gladstone, Ore., Gross began his Wolves' career in 2018 tallying 46 punts for an average of 36.4 yards, with 15 landing inside the 20. In 2019, he punted 33 times for an average of 38.5 yards and six landing inside the 20. Gross also went 3-6 on field goals and had 64 kickoffs for an average of 58.4 yards. This year, Gross has punted 40 times for an average of 39.5 yards, with eight landing inside the 20 and four traveling over 50 yards. He also has six kickoffs for an average of 59.7 yards. Gross earned All-GNAC accolades throughout his career.

Twister McComas

McComas made an impact right away for the Wolves during the 2017 season when he played in 10 games. The defensive lineman from Banks, Ore., has played in 35 games for the Wolves, coming away with 30 tackles, nine solo, four tackles for loss, and two sacks. This season, McComas has 11 tackles, one solo, along with 2.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

Widny Joseph

Joseph transferred to WOU during the 2018 season and has played throughout his three years with the Wolves as a defensive back. From Novato, Calif., Joseph has played in three games, coming away with three tackles, one solo and a pass breakup playing against Colorado Mines, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Portland State this season.

Mack Little

Little has seen time on the field since the 2018 season and has played throughout the 2019 and 2021 seasons on defense. The linebacker from Culver, Ore., played in all 11 games in 2019 posting 28 tackles, five solo, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hurries. So far this season, Little has 25 tackles, 13 solo, along with three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. Entering this week, Little has played in 22 games counting the game this week, tallied 53 tackles, 18 solo, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, six quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Jarren Ford

Ford has been one of the top receivers on the team each of the past two seasons. From San Dimas, Calif., Ford caught 16 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns during the 2019 season. He also had one rushing attempt for 11 yards. So far this season, Ford has 29 catches for 301 yards and a touchdown. For his career he has played in 20 games, catching 45 passes for 603 yards and three touchdowns.

Braden Fuszek

Fuszek is a local product from right here in Monmouth and has been a part of the Wolves since the 2018 season. Fuszek has served as the long snapper and has helped on special teams, spending time at both positions throughout his career.

Ryan Worthley

Worthley moved into the starting quarterback role this season and has been apart of the program since 2017. From Tigard, Ore., Worthley played in nine games over the previous two seasons, he has played in all 10 games including this week and has completed 149-243 for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns. Worthley had a three TD game against Simon Fraser and threw for 379 yards against West Texas A&M.

WOU enters the week 3-6 overall and 2-1 at home this season. Last week, the Wolves traveled out to Nebraska with Chadron State using a big second half for the 45-7 win. During the last home game on Oct. 30 against Simon Fraser, WOU rolled to the 42-3 victory.

Worthley leads the quarterbacks completing 149-243 for 1,535 yards and eight touchdowns. Gannon Winker has added 9-18 for 159 yards and two touchdowns and Wyatt Harsh is 12-24 for 136 yards. Thomas Wright has caught 35 passes for 514 yards and four touchdowns. Jarren Ford adds 29 catches for 301 yards and a score, while Damon Hickok has 20 catches for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Omari Land has rushed for 893 yards on 163 carries, tallying nine touchdowns. Andrew Valladares adds 46 carries for 299 yards and two touchdowns and Dominique Loggins has 25 carries for 133 yards.

On defense, Jaylin Parnell leads the way with 72 tackles, 43 solo, along with 13 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick. Ryan Minniti adds 55 tackles, 33 solo, along with two tackles for loss, three pass breakups and two quarterback hurries. Joey Sinclair has 46 tackles, 30 solo, along with a tackle for loss, three interceptions, three pass breakups and a fumble recovery. Curtis Anderson is fourth on the team in tackles with 42, 20 coming solo, along with 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup, five quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

On special teams, Andrew Gross has punted 40 times for an average of 39.5 yards, eight landing inside the 20 and four traveling over 50 yards including a season-long 65. Danny Cossette is 3-7 on field goal attempts and on kickoffs, Tanner Shattuck has 22 kickoffs for an average of 52.8 yards. On returns, Marquis Sampson has returned 10 punts for 73 yards and Sinclair has five returns for 25 yards. Anderson has returned 22 kickoffs for 425 yards, Sampson has nine returns for 200 yards and Sinclair with three returns for 88 yards.

Nationally, WOU ranks high in several categories including 55th in completion percentage (59), 44th in first downs allowed on defense (166), 39th in total interceptions thrown (7), 57th in passing yards allowed per game (194), 40th in punt return yards allowed per game (5.92), and 47th in time of possession (31:07). Individually, Land ranks 68th nationally in all-purpose yards per game (107.3), 28th in rushing touchdowns (9), 31st in rushing yards (891), 23rd in rushing yards per game (99), and 67th in total touchdowns (9). Anderson is 49th in combined kick return yards (425) and 83rd in kickoff return yards per game (19.3). Worthley is 33rd in completion percentage (61.3), 50th in completions per game (16.56), 85th in passing yards per game (170.6), and 89th in passing yards (1,535). Parnell is tied for 60th in forced fumbles per game (0.22), 78th in sacks per game (0.61), 61st in solo tackles per game (4.8), 27th in tackles for loss per game (1.4) and 66th in total tackles per game (8.0). Billy Nelson and Sinclair are in the top-60 nationally in interceptions per game with Nelson 51st (0.40) and Sinclair 58th (0.30). Gross ranks 37th nationally in punting average per game (39.5).

WOU will face first-year program Lincoln out of Oakland, California. The Oaklanders have played eight games so far this season with every game on the road. They opened the year on Sep. 11 at Whitworth falling by just two points. Lincoln collected their first win the next week at Willamette (34-9). Since then, they have played Division I Stephen F. Austin (L, 13-61), Eastern New Mexico (L, 6-52), UT Permian Basin (L, 0-75), Texas A&M-Kingsville (L, 21-51), Central Washington (L, 0-92) and this past week at Western Colorado (L, 6-72).

Statistics have been hard to come by, with Lincoln starting several different quarterbacks including Lamar Housely this past week who is listed as a wide receiver. Cameron Burston played earlier in the season and Terence Robinson has also seen time at QB. David Teu handled most of the running back duties this past week and Tommy Ologundudu and Valonsky Jeanty led the team in receptions.

On defense, Emmit Gooden led the team at Western Colorado with nine tackles, while Je'Quari Godfrey, Quindarius Coles and Calvin Sinclair IV adding four tackles. QB Housely also handled the punting duties for part of the game and Riley Lee also punted a few times.

This week's game will also be the final game of the season for Lincoln.

WOU and Lincoln will kickoff at 1:05 p.m. at McArthur Field this Saturday. The ten seniors will be honored before the game.
