MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Tom Moonen has had many great moments in his Blue Raider career and he can add another one, Friday, as the senior clinched the 4-2 victory over Georgia State on Senior Day.
With the Raiders up 3-2 in the match, Moonen was up a set and in a tiebreak in the second, trying to clinch the match. The tiebreak stayed on serve for the first three points before Moonen won three straight points to go up 5-1, giving him enough cushion to win the tiebreak, 7-4, and clinch the victory for the Blue Raiders, their 29th straight at the Adams Tennis Complex, the longest home winning streak in the nation.
The Raiders dropped the doubles point, meaning they had to win four singles matches to earn the victory.
Stijn Slump tied the match at one with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court two. Francisco Rocha gave the Raiders the lead as he took his match, battling back from 5-1 down in the first set to win, 7-6 (4), 6-0.
On court four, Chris Edge extended the Raider lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 win. The Panthers got back to within one with a win on court five, but Moonen made sure it did not get any closer, finishing out the match on court three.
Middle Tennessee's two other seniors also had solid afternoons on the court. Max Rauch paired with Rocha to win his doubles match 6-3 while Oskar Michalek took a set in his singles match on court six before it went unfinished in the third set.
With the win, the Raiders finish the regular season with 14-7 record. They will look to defend their Conference USA tile next week, April 23-25, where they will be the top seed in Charlotte.
