NEWARK, N.J. - The VMI men's and women's swimming and diving teams set new school records Sunday on the final day of the three-day America East Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by NJIT.
Junior Sophie Svoboda broke her own school record in the women's 100 free, finishing 16th in 53.27. Anne Bowles set a new freshman mark in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.76, taking 16th. Jillian Maher swam a 2:18.47 in the 200 backstroke with Ruki Sarkari close behind with a time of 2:19.99. The 400 free relay team of Kate Taylor, Isabella DeCosta, Sarah Liebenow and Svoboda finished in 3:50.00.
Freshman Chase Lane finished 11th in the men's 200 breast in 2:06.92, followed by Jack Sheehan in 12th in 2:08.34. Chino Vera placed 12th in the 100 free in 46.86 and Tyler Blackwell took 17th in 48.85. Collin Marks took 14th in 1000 free in 10:01.98 while Dalton Cosner was 11th in the 200 fly, with Thomas Muldowney finishing 13th in 1:58.35 in his final collegiate meet. Conner Jorgensen was 11th in the 200 back in 1:56.85 and Connor Doyle in 12th in 1:57.18.
The 400 free team of Vera, Sheehan, Marks and Cosner finished in 3:10.30
