COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican baseball team will conclude its 2021 regular season slate with six games in Panther Valley this week.  

THE BASICS 

  • Ohio Dominican continues a busy stretch at home with six games in five days, beginning with a doubleheader against conference-leading Kentucky Wesleyan on Tuesday, April 27.  

  • The two sets of Panthers are slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch at Frank Damian Field.  

  • ODU will then welcome Lake Erie for a four-game Great Midwest Athletic Conference series this weekend. 

  • The Panthers and Storm will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday, April 30, and May 1, with both days set to begin at noon.  

  • Ohio Dominican has won six of its last eight games, taking its past two conference series against Ohio Valley and Walsh, 3-1.  

  • The Panthers are 21-9 entering play this week, including a 13-9 mark in the G-MAC. 

  • Ky. Wesleyan is tied with Trevecca Nazarene for the top spot in the G-MAC at 16-2, while also holding a 19-7 overall record.  

  • Lake Erie enters the week still looking to find a spot into the conference tournament in mid-May, as the Storm are four losses back of the No. 8 slot with a 3-19 conference mark. LEC is 5-24 overall.  

SENIOR DAY 

  • Ohio Dominican is expecting to honor five seniors prior to Saturday's doubleheader against Lake Erie.  

  • The Panthers will recognize Roger Danison (Carroll, Ohio)Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio)Clay Davies (Massillon, Ohio)Devon Robb (Kingston, Canada), and Danny Matic (Highland Heights, Ohio) for their contributions to the program.  

  • This class has helped produced a pair of 30-plus win seasons and successfully usher ODU into the G-MAC, hoisting a 53-26 conference record since 2018.  

  • Overall, ODU is 135-114-1 (.542) in the past six years.  

LAST TIME OUT 

  • An important conference series last weekend saw ODU take three of four games against Walsh, who still ranks third in the G-MAC standings and was a top-two preseason favorite in the conference's coaches poll.  

  • The Panthers had a flair for the dramatic all weekend long, winning Games 1 and 2 with late offensive rallies, supported with defensive excellence.  

  • ODU rallied to score 9 of the final 10 runs in Game One, winning 9-8, which also saw the Black & Gold secure the win with a game-ending double play in the field. 

  • The Panthers scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take Game Two, 9-5.  

  • After pausing action for a day, ODU secured its series victory by walking off with a 3-2 in Game Three on a David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) base hit. 

  • In the finale, Walsh responded with a 9-1 victory, to earn a doubleheader split on the day and its only win of the series.  

  • ODU hit .270 as a team, led by junior Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) and sophomore Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio), who both had series batting averages north of .400. 

  • The bullpen was strong throughout the weekend, conceding four runs over 11 innings of work, a 3.27 ERA.  

DEEP AND BALANCED LINEUP 

  • The Panthers have five batters hitting over .300 this spring, showing no breaks in their lineup. 

  • After a 3-for-4 performance, including his walk-off single in Game Three alone, David Silva leads the team with a .360 average. The sophomore also has 26 RBI, 27 runs scored, and is 14-of-19 in stolen base attempts.  

  • Jace Komminsk and Roger Danison are hitting .326 and .324, respectively, and lead the team and are tied for fourth in the G-MAC with 10 doubles each.  

  • Thomas Staab has nation-best 30 stolen bases to go along with a .321 average. The junior hit for the cycle in the Walsh series as well.  

  • Brennen Hunt's strong weekend raised his season average to .308. The sophomore had his first collegiate home run in Game Three of the Walsh series. 

  • Sophomore Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) has hovered the .300 line all spring, currently hitting. 297. Brill has gone deep four times in the past two weeks, giving him eight home runs this season, which is tied for third in the G-MAC.  

PITCHING BY COMMITTEE 

  • young pitching staff has produced strong numbers throughout the spring, with several members of the staff stepping up in key situations.  

  • Freshman Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) is one of three Panther pitchers with over 30 innings pitched this spring, leading ODU and the G-MAC with 53.2 innings. 

  • Rouse has a 4-2 record this spring, and in his first collegiate season, has posted a 4.02 ERA (10th in the G-MAC).  

  • Junior Brendan Hofacre (Chardon, Ohio) has produced back-to-back quality starts for ODU. Hofacre has allowed just two runs in his most recent appearances, throwing a combined 13.1 innings against OVU and Walsh.  

  • Redshirt freshman Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) is 3-0 out of the bullpen with a team-best 1.69 ERA. Over 10.2 innings of work, Martinez has 10 strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs. 

ABOUT KENTUCKY WESLEYAN 

  • The Panthers have won four of their last five games to move to 19-7 overall and 16-2 in the G-MAC. 

  • KWC split a doubleheader against Cedarville last weekend, with the final two games being cancelled.  

  • KWC will come to Columbus with an 8-1 record in true road games this spring but will be traveling for the first time since April 12.  

  • ODU and KWC have met just four times since ODU's Division II inception in 2011.  

  • The two teams have split the series, 2-2. 

  • The last meeting was during the 2019 G-MAC Tournament, where KWC eliminated ODU to advance to the championship round.  

ABOUT LAKE ERIE 

  • Lake Erie is just 5-24 this spring but is coming off a 16-1 win over Malone in conference play last Saturday.  

  • LEC Is 3-19 in the G-MAC and on the outside of the top eight in the standings, which will qualify for the conference's tournament.  

  • The Storm are 4-15 in road games, with two wins coming against G-MAC opponents.  

  • ODU and LEC, two former GLIAC rivals and now G-MAC foes, have met 31 times since 2011.  

  • The Panthers lead the series 17-14 and have won three straight prior to play this weekend. 

  • The two teams split a four-game series in Painesville in 2019, and ODU defeated LEC in the 2019 G-MAC Tournament, 6-4, en route to a third-place finish.
