Belle Isle Park will be closed to traffic on Friday starting at 3 p.m. to accommodate the Belle Isle Freedom March, the Belle Isle Conservancy announced in a Facebook post.
The march will start in Gabriel Richard Park at 3 p.m. and end at 6 p.m. Traffic will not be able to enter or exit the park, and it will not reopen until the march ends.
The Belle Isle Freedom March will recreate the 1965 Selma march. About 1,000 people are expected to attend, according to organizers.
"What I am hoping that people gain is reflection, understanding and taking a moment to think about the next steps we want to take to address police brutality in the country and in our local areas," said Kekady Cox, an event organizer and supporter. "And how to hold people accountable."

Event parking options are located off E. Jefferson Avenue, west of the MacArthur Bridge.
March participants will walk one mile through Belle Isle Park, while practicing social distancing.
Belle Isle Park will close at the start of the City of Detroit's 8 p.m. curfew.
