If you have walked or ridden a bike on the Heritage Rail Trail County Park recently, you might have noticed a missing bridge in New Freedom, closer to the state line.

That's because the historic, 115-year-old bridge truss on Singer Road over the rail trail was being rehabilitated.

On Thursday, crews set it back into place.

The bridge, which was built in 1905 by the Pennsylvania Railroad, became eligible for the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. It's one of the dwindling number of Warren truss bridges remaining in Pennsylvania, according to C.S. Davidson, Inc.

The work cost about $1.38 million.

The repairs included replacing the existing floor beams, stringers and deck, the engineering firm said. The truss members were repaired or replaced while maintaining its historical integrity.

Crews also cleaned and repainted the truss.

The bridge was restricted to 12 tons before it was rehabilitated. It now will have a weight restriction of 14 tons.
