The powerful voice of Lady Rosalind Jones opens Juneteenth festivities Saturday at God’s House Church.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The emancipation celebration took place differently this year with a statewide virtual Juneteenth event featuring live performances of music, spoken word, dance and more online.

Josh Mills raps a song titled “For My Good” on stage at God’s House Church in Albuquerque on Saturday during a Juneteenth observance.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced festivities to livestream, which they did all day Saturday.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. It has been a New Mexico state holiday since 2006, according to the Governor’s Office.
