Freedom Christian of Fayetteville is still atop the Sandhills Conference volleyball standings.
The Patriots picked up a 3-0 sweep (25-16, 25-8, 25-23) of Cape Fear Christian Academy in Erwin on Tuesday, moving the team to 5-2 on the year and 4-0 in the league.
It was just what Freedom Christian needed after a nonconference road loss at Coastal Christian in Wilmington the night before.
And now? A much-needed break.
The Patriots have played four games in eight days, which is a familiar refrain around the league.
Cape Fear Christian, which fell to 4-5 on the season and 1-4 in the Sandhills Conference, is also in need of some time off after having played eight matches in eight days (four of them were of the best-of-3 variety during Saturday's Lee Christian tournament, which Cape Fear Christian won).
The Eagles' tournament title bodes well for playoff seeding. Cape Fear Christian is the only 1A school in the Sandhills Conference.
For Freedom Christian, which is 2A, its only losses have come to 3A power Coastal Christian and 4A power North Raleigh Christian.
Cassandra Jacobs led a balanced attack with 10 kills during Tuesday's match.
