FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Significant icing expected in northwestern Alabama - WBRC

rintongs.blogspot.com

Temperatures this morning are mostly in the 30s. Temperatures remain at or below freezing for areas west of I-65. Cold spots includes Marion, Lamar, Winston, and Cullman counties where temperatures remain in the upper 20s. East Alabama remains above freezing with temperatures in the upper 30s and lower 40s. First Alert AccuTrack is showing widespread snow in parts of Arkansas and Louisiana. As the moisture moves into Mississippi, the snow is transitioning to a mixture of sleet and freezing rain. All of this moisture is forecast to move into west Alabama after 6 AM. Initial problems will likely begin in Lamar, Pickens, Marion, Fayette, and Winston counties. I would avoid travel in these locations this morning as freezing rain could create ice on bridges, overpasses, and some roadways.
