California recorded 1,370 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths on Saturday, with a 7-day positivity rate at 1%, according to state health officials Sunday.
1,402 remain hospitalized with 362 in the ICU.

A vaccination milestone in California. As of Friday, 15,110,057 people are fully vaccinated in the state, according to the California Department of Public Health. The state positivity rate remains at 1.1%.

After FDA and CDC authorization and endorsement of the Pfizer vaccine in 12-15 year-olds, California's Department of Public Health is officially recommending the COVID-19 vaccine for people 12-years-old and up.

Santa Clara Co. opens up vaccine appointments to 12-to-15-year-old kids
Santa Clara County officials announced Wednesday evening that vaccine appointees for children 12 and up are available effective immediately. Appointments can be scheduled now through the county's website, which also includes information about numerous drop-in vaccination sites throughout the county.

Panel suggests WHO should have more power to stop pandemics
A panel of independent experts who reviewed the World Health Organization's response to the coronavirus pandemic says the U.N. health agency should be granted "guaranteed rights of access" in countries to investigate emerging outbreaks, a contentious idea that would give it more powers and require member states to give up some of theirs.

San Mateo County has officially joined San Francisco in the least restrictive yellow tier. This means nearly all businesses could open indoors with physical distancing and face covering requirements.

Once the epicenter for COVID cases, health officials say Los Angeles County could reach herd immunity by the end of July. California's 7-Day Positivity Rate has dropped to a record low 1%.

San Mateo Co. to move into yellow tier Tuesday, official says
San Mateo County will move into the less restrictive yellow tier on Tuesday, according to San Mateo County Board of Supervisors President David Canepa. Some of the biggest changes that can happen in the yellow tier include increasing indoor capacity at wineries, breweries and distilleries to 50% or 200 people, whichever number is fewer. Gyms can increase capacity from 25% to 50%. They can also reopen saunas, spas and steam rooms.

California's 7-day positivity rate at record low 1%
California's 7-day COVID-19 positivity rate is 1%, according to new data released by state health officials Monday. That is the record lowest number since the pandemic began. There were 1,377 newly recorded confirmed cases Sunday, adding to a total of 3,655,922 confirmed cases to date.
More than 14 million or 45.1% of residents are fully vaccinated in California, with a average of 267,310 doses administered per day.

32 million Californians have received at least 1 shot
The Department of Public Health reported 1,800 new cases Sunday and 61 deaths in California. More than 32 million Californians have received at least one shot and 45% of the population over the age of 16 is fully vaccinated.

California's 7-day positivity rate is 1.1%
California's 7-day COVID-19 positivity rate is 1.1%, according to the latest facts released by state health officials Sunday. There were 1,853 newly recorded confirmed cases Saturday, with a total of 3,654,545 confirmed cases to date.
California also hit a milestone as more than 14 million residents are fully vaccinated, with more than 32 million doses administered statewide.

There were 1,945 newly recorded confirmed cases Friday, according to the California Department of Public Health. California has 3,652,692 confirmed cases to date.
The 7-day positivity rate is 1.2%.
There have been 61,585,617 tests conducted in California. There have been 61,167 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Party blamed for Contra Costa Co. outbreak
A party is being blamed for a COVID outbreak among students. It happened within the Acalanes Union High School District in Contra Costa County. District officials say 21 students tested positive late last month, according to the East Bay Times. 19 go to Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek. The other two go to other high schools in the district. Contact tracing helped identify more than 100 other students who were directed to quarantine at home.

Oakland Coliseum vaccination to close May 23
The Oakland Coliseum mega vaccination site will be closing May 23. The site experienced a rapid reduction in first dose appointments over the last two weeks of April. The closure comes as CalOES concludes its deployment on May 9 and public requests for first dose appointments at the site have dropped from 4,000 per day to 400 per day. The county will take over the site on May 10 and keep it open for two more weeks to complete second doses. The site has administered nearly 250,000 doses to Alameda County residents.

North Tahoe cancels 4th of July celebrations
Donner Lake, Truckee, and the North Shore of Lake Tahoe are all canceling 4th of July celebrations. Officials say the annual firework demonstrations bring thousands of visitors to the region in the days leading up to and during the holiday weekend. They hope these cancellations will reduce crowd concerns, and minimize the possible spread of COVID-19.

San Francisco has joined the yellow tier, health officials announced on Tuesday. This means, according to state guidelines, that bars could reopen indoors at 25%. Here's more on what will change in the yellow tier.

SF announces new mask guidelines
San Francisco is now saying vaccinated people can take their masks off outside unless they are in a large gathering. The city's acting health officer says people do not need to wear masks while exercising outdoors and don't need to pull the mask up over their face when passing people on the trail, saying passing people does not create a risk of transmission.

A new permanent vaccination site will open today in South San Jose at VTA's Santa Teresa Light Rail Station. An official announcement about the free, walk-up site is scheduled for this morning. VTA says the site will have capacity to provide hundreds of COVID vaccines per day.

Contra Costa Co. administers more than 1M vaccines
Contra Costa County has now administered more than 1 million COVID-19 vaccines -- that's several weeks ahead of its July 4th goal. Today, the county has added two temporary walk-up vaccine clinics. One is at the Pittsburg Youth Development Center. The other is at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond. No appointment is needed. The sites are only for eligible county residents. It is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until May 2.

A mass vaccination site at the San Mateo County Event Center will reopen tomorrow. It closed earlier this month due to low supply. Officials say they plan to hold multiple vaccination events per week. The site is drive-thru only. Appointments are available now.

California to follow CDC guidance on outdoor mask wearing, Newsom says
California Gov. Newsom said health officials are moving to align California's mask guidance with updates from the CDC that say vaccinated people do not need to wear masks outdoors unless in a crowd of strangers. See the full new guidance here.

Santa Clara Co. accepting drop-ins at most vaccination sites
Santa Clara County is accepting drop-ins at most of its vaccination sites from now until Sunday. The only exceptions are Levi's Stadium and Eastridge Mall, but even those sites are accepting same-day appointments.

Some SF Unified students return to classes
Today San Francisco public middle and high schools are welcoming back some students for in-person learning. The school district says classrooms will reopen for "priority populations." That includes newcomer students, those demonstrating limited online engagement, homeless students, foster youth, students in public housing, and special needs students. All other middle and high schoolers won't return until the fall.
