Even in an online competition, “Moving Day” exists and Day Two of the Atlas Games epitomized that as the leaderboard was in a constant state of flux despite just two workouts on the docket. With just one more day of competition and two workouts for the CrossFit-programmed event, athletes are looking to solidify a 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games invitation to Madison, WI.

The women’s division:

“Mom strength” is a thing and Mekenzie Riley is using every ounce of it to secure her fifth Games invitation following in the shoes of Granite Games champion Arielle Loewen and current West Coast Classic athlete Regan Huckaby. The new mom sits atop the leaderboard after Day Two after two top-five finishes.

  • The American won Workout 3 which featured 60 muscle-ups with a time of 17:10 and followed that with a fifth-place finish in Workout 4, completing 46 snatches.
  • Canadians occupy the remaining four Games qualifying spots led by 21-year old newcomer Sydney Michalyshen who trails Riley by just 12 points.
  • Michalyshen won Workout 4 with a world-record 54 reps, which included 24 reps at the final weight of 165 pounds.
  • Carolyne Prevost dropped from the top of the leaderboard after a perfect Day One to third in part to two finishes outside the top-ten.
  • Emily Rolfe remained in fourth place highlighted by a fourth place in Workout 3 with a time of 18:06.
  • 18-year old Anikha Greer was tied with Prevost in points after Day One and like her fellow Canadian dropped down the leaderboard into fifth place.
  • Not far behind Greer are a host of Americans who are within striking distance of the coveted Games spot. Alexis Johnson (6th), Chyna Cho (7th), Paige Semenza (tied for 8th) and Baylee Rayl (8th) are within nine points.
  • Cho was one of the top movers of the day after struggling on Day 1, she recorded a fifth and eighth place.
  • Semenza and Rayl each finished second and third respectively in Workout 3 to help them stay in the Games hunt.
  • 16-year old Canadian Emma Lawson is still in contention, just 13 points behind Rayl.

The men’s division:

The top four spots on the men’s leaderboard consist of Canadians, led by Patrick Vellner. Vellner picked up where he left off on Day One, with a workout win.

  • He won Workout 3 with a time of 14:08, the third fastest time in the online Semifinals, and followed that with a sixth place in Workout 4 to give him a 16 point lead over the field.
  • Jeffrey Adler made the jump from sixth to second place after two top-3 finishes. He was the runner-up to Vellner in Workout 3 and placed third in the final workout of the day.
  • Samuel Cournoyer moved up one spot to third, with a sixth and fifth place on Day Two.
  • Alex Vigneault rounded out the Canadian foursome, placing fourth and seventh on the day.
  • Tyler Christophel occupies the final Games spot with two more top-ten finishes including a third place in Workout 3.
  • American Phil Toon dropped to sixth place from third with finishes outside the top-10.
  • Brent Fikowski made a huge move on Day Two and finds himself in seventh place thanks to a win in Workout 4. He recorded 50 reps in the snatches, the second most recorded in the Semifinals.
  • Rounding out the athletes currently in the Last Chance Qualifier spots are Dane Smith and Adam Davidson, who are both tied for eighth.

The team division: While PRO1 Montreal remains in first place, they lost a little bit of yesterday’s lead, with a sixth place finish in the fourth workout of the weekend, leaving just a ten point gap between themselves and 1855, that could cost them the top of the podium if 1855 fights hard enough tomorrow.

  • PRO1 Montreal won Team Workout 3, the third win out of four workouts, with a Semifinal record time of 12:25.
  • CrossFit Resurrection and Rhapsody, who both sat on the cusp yesterday, also took advantage of “Moving Day” to move themselves solidly into third and fourth place overall, with Rhapsody 50 points ahead of fifth place Team Koda.
  • Rhapsody won Workout 4, with lifts that totalled 998 pounds, 14 pounds more than their closest competitor.
  • Team Koda sits 25 points ahead of sixth place team, Fit To Prove Stadd, but that is a lead that could easily be lost over the course of the next two workouts on the final day.

On tap for the final day: The Atlas Games concludes tomorrow with the final two virtual workouts. Workout 5 is a long triplet that features three rounds of ascending distances and repetitions of rowing, handstand walks and legless rope climbs. The sixth and final workout is the one of the seven new “Girl” workouts, “Grettel”, which is a quick 10-round couplet that features three clean and jerks and three bar-facing burpees.
