With the novel coronavirus forcing diners to stay at home, extended families won’t be gathering around restaurant tables to celebrate moms this year. Still, eating and drinking establishments limited to takeout and delivery are finding creative ways to make Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 10) special at home. Here are nearly 30 options for anyone who needs a last-minute Mother’s Day plan, split up into brunch, dinner, and sweets.

Brunch

Neighborhood Provisions: The delivery service from the huge restaurant group behind Iron Gate, Hazel, Vermillion, and plenty of other local favorites has a brunch menu full of cold casseroles and cook-at-home kits(Friday delivery only) for Mother’s Day weekend. Special gift sets ($45 to $100) include “Chef Allie’s Brunch Pancake Pack” ($50) which includes pancake mix, eggs, butter and maple syrup, a mimosa kit, a Mother’s Day card, and chai tea or cold brew.

Napoli Pasta Bar: The Columbia Heights pasta place has a three-course, “ready to bake” brunch ($70) with lasagna, branzino or chicken, and a choice of gelato or sorbetto from Dolci Gelato.

Four Seasons Washington, DC: Smoked salmon mousse tartelette, arugula and brie salad, roasted Cornish hen, and a chocolate tartelette make up the four-course Mother’s Day brunch at the Georgetown hotel. The meal is $65 per person, and a portion of the proceeds from every order are donated to Medstar Washington Hospital Center. Order on Tock and pick up at the valet stand between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Susan Gage Caterers: A $125 brunch package for two includes roasted vegetable quiches, applewood smoked bacon, fresh berries, oatmeal, heart shaped-scones with butter and jam, and orange juice and Domaine Carneros sparkling wine. Extras include a Mother’s Day card from Paper Source and a small bouquet of flowers from Helen Olivia Floral Design. Delivery is available all throughout the DMV area. Three business days notice is required.

Succotash: Order a Southern breakfast spread with deviled eggs, house-cured salmon, fried green tomatoes, breakfast potatoes, an omelet, and more for two diners at $99 (add on more food at $49.99 per person). Extras like Hummingbird cupcakes or a “roses & rosé” package are available too. Place orders online via Tock for the Penn Quarter location or National Harbor, and the pick-up time is Sunday, May 10 between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Call Your Mother: Order a pickup bagel extravaganza from the trendy deli (Park View, Capitol Hill) with the $65 “Big Momma’s House Platter,” a box with a half dozen assorted bagels and plenty of spreads like candied salmon cream cheese and whitefish salad. There’s also a massive $30 plate of challah sticky buns with pecans.

Nina May: The new American restaurant in Shaw has a new “Feast” delivery service that offers a Mother’s Day brunch box ($70) with three courses for two diners. That comes with heatable dishes like strawberry pancakes and quiche made with wild ramps and sausage. The Mother’s Day brunch box delivery is available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and all reservations must be made before 1 p.m. the day before delivery.

Medium Rare: The steak frites spot is offering no-contact deliveries for free to moms who are 70 or older and living alone in the D.C. area. Email your name and contact info to ilovemymom@mediumrarerestaurant.com.

Fare Well: Pick up a box packed with vegan breakfast dishes like pain au chocolat, almond croissants, Southern-style biscuits, homemade jam and other spreads, and a sangria kit. Pre-order by Friday, May 8 for pick-up on Saturday or Sunday starting at 10 a.m. Delivery is available from the H Street NE restaurant over the weekend through UberEats and Door Dash.

Equinox: The fancy, inventive standby downtown has a $35-per-person Mother’s Day brunch tasting menu with tomato and pineapple gazpacho, spring asparagus frittata, and granola-crusted French toast, with dessert too.

Osteria Morini: Italian breakfast in bed from the Navy Yard stalwart is a $32-per-person plate with lemon ricotta pancake batter, mascarpone mousse, fruit compote, two eggs, and a choice of protein between smoked salmon, pancetta or chicken sausage.

ABC Pony: Heat up a full brunch spread including quiche lorraine, breakfast potatoes, chocolate chip pancakes, raspberry bellinis, and a choice of either slow-roast salmon, red wine braised brisket, or a fricassee with polenta, mushroom, and Parmesan. The $100 meal from the Navy Yard cafe serves four.

Hummingbird: The Old Town restaurant’s $69 “Mother’s Day Brunch Bag” for four includes ready-to-bake cinnamon rolls and a strata with spinach, meat, and gruyère, along with a bottle of bubbly.

Stable: The Swiss restaurant on H Street NE has a $45 Mother’s Day brunch package that includes DIY-mimosas, two butter croissants, a loaf of Wurzel bread, and two Berliners or Swiss-style doughnuts. A $75 brunch package offers extras like chicken liver pate with apple chutney, homemade pear bread, and two apricot “Schnapsicles.”

Seven Reasons: The $50-per-person family-style Mother’s Day brunch from the Latin hot spot on 14th Street NW includes dishes like avocado toast, a chocolate roll, lemon-glazed pound cake, steak and egg with fries, a croissant with salmon and feta, and house-made yogurt with berries.

Dinner

Mama Chang (Fairfax) and Q By Peter Chang (Bethesda): The acclaimed pair of Chinese restaurants are whipping up a special Mother’s Day package for pickup, starting with appetizers like dry-fried cauliflower, wagyu beef lo mein, pan-fried shrimp dumplings, and Peking duck. Choose between cumin lamb chops or black pepper shrimp and scallops (or get both for $20 extra). Chocolate raspberry cake by pastry chef pro Pichet Ong rounds out the meal. The feast runs $80 for two diners; orders must be placed in advance online starting Thursday.

Kaliwa: Takeout at the Wharf eatery takes an interactive spin on Mother’s Day. A three-course meal kit for two comes with three bottles of wine and tickets to a virtual meal prep and tasting session with chef Cathal Armstrong and winemaker Bruce Neyers at 4 p.m. Email events@kaliwadc.com by Thursday, May 7, at 1 p.m. to reserve a spot, as tickets are limited.

Preorder through Toast or Tock for Sunday pickups between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Centrolina: Chef Amy Brandwein created two meal kits for Mother’s Day. There’s a brunch option and an $85-per-person, four-course dinner with dishes like a tortellini of ricotta and wild herbs, a poached cod and artichoke barigoule, along with strawberry and rhubarb crostata for dessert. Mother’s Day pre-orders begin today and are available for pickup on Saturday or delivery after noon on Sunday.

Zaytinya: José Andrés’ classic Greek restaurant offers a lamb shoulder feast for Mother’s Day. The meaty meal comes with pitas and sauces like tzatziki and harissa, alongside sides like lemon roasted potatoes, Ladotyri cheese, za’atar roasted asparagus, Greek yogurt with Muscat-soaked apricots, and Turkish coffee chocolate cake. Clyde’s/Old Ebbitt Grill/The Hamilton: There are plenty of options for the Clyde’s restaurant group’s “Mother’s Day at Home” meal, from brunch with ham and asparagus quiche to dinner menus like glazed spiral ham with rum raisin sauce or roast beef tenderloin, pan-roasted chicken, or grilled salmon — all served with sides.

Joe’s Seafood: Florida stone crab claws and a pound of Alaskan king crab legs round out this seafood chain’s $199.95 Mother’s Day feast, which serves up to four. The menu also includes chopped salad, mashed potatoes, grilled tomatoes, and Key lime pie.

Tabard Inn: At $55 per order, each Mother’s Day meal includes salad and two family-style entrees, a children’s entree for two, and a Bellini kit. Orders must be made by Friday for pickup on Saturday.

Belga: Mother’s Day weekend specials include grilled bone-in ribeye for two or more and Maine lobster salad — with roses available for purchase too.

Kaz Sushi Bistro: Order an 80-piece sushi platter for $235. The Mother’s Day spread includes rolls like spicy tuna and hamachi yellow tail, seaweed salad, miso soup, chicken wings, spicy green mussels, mango panna cotta, and more.

Patsy’s: The Mother’s Day meal at the Great American Restaurants group’s steakhouse includes spinach dip and chips to start, with prime rib as a main, along with sides like mashed potatoes and Ozzie rolls, and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The meal is packaged for families of two at $79 or four at $150.

Sweets and more

Best Buns: The Shirlington and Tysons locations will offer desserts like “Mom’s Personalized Heart Cake” (a chocolate cake, filled with buttercream and topped with an edible flower and a special custom message for mom). Other treats are available too, like floral cupcakes, heart-shaped sugar cookies, and a “Mom’s Morning Breakfast Tray” with cherry scones, biscotti, and other pastries.
