It is no secret. Every morning and every evening, I go on Facebook from home. Some might call it cyber-snooping. Others might call it market research. I first got on Facebook shortly after my children logged on. For those of you who are parents, enough said.
Yes, I was keeping an eye on them and this new virtual world of connecting. For various reasons, I am careful about what I post. After all, I am a pastor. Early on in this pandemic, we were all sent home to be safe, to work, to do school and to live, our new normal for “a while.” We had no idea, how long “awhile” would be.
Early on various people commented, “I don’t know what day of the week it is.” Then comments followed about the days-of-the-week underwear some of us wore when we were children.
I think in those younger days, it was not to serve as a reminder of which day of the week it was, but to teach us the days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. One pair for each day! So early on this pandemic, I decided to make it my calling to remind people what day of the week it was.
Today is Friday, May 29, 2020. Then, I ask, “How are you doing?”
I put the post inside a purple box, my favorite color. I plan to continue to do this posting for the duration. I’m just not sure, what the duration will be. None of us knows.
So, Ellwood City, how are you doing? You are reading this.
How are you doing? How have these days, weeks, months affected you? How are you doing?
We have all been affected by this COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully and prayerfully, all of you have some connection with someone, even as we continue to socially distance ourselves. If you need a someone, I could be that someone. Any of my colleagues who serve in Ellwood City would be happy to be that someone.
Today, in Lawrence County, we go into the green phase of reopening. As we venture into a new normal as people of God -- and we are all people of God -- the care of others must be a concern for all of us, as it always should be.
Jesus reminds us: “As you have done it to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it unto me.” (Matthew 25:40)
This is one of my favorite prayers: O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
People of God, people of Ellwood City, how are you doing? We take each day, one day at a time, knowing and trusting that God is with us, no matter what. We are never alone.
Thanks be to God!
