Summer begins at 5:43 this afternoon, and it'll continue to feel like it as we roll through the weekend and into next week. Looking back on this month, we've had only 4 days of measurable rain, totaling a measly 0.56". Most of that came on June 11, which is also the last day of rain in Albany. Going forward, it's like weather lotto: some folks will get lucky but most will stay dry, at least for now, and all of us will stay warm and humid through the next 5-6 days.
Today
Quite a few clouds in place overnight are melting away quickly in this early morning. Temperatures are in the mid-50s in the Adirondacks but elsewhere, we're in the upper 50s to the upper 60s. As the clouds continue to erode, the sun will get to work and warm us into the low 80s by lunchtime. We ended up with bunches of clouds from time to time yesterday but still managed a high of 88 in Albany. Today will see its own mix of sun and clouds with highs again in the 80s to 90.
The other weather piece for today is our storm opportunities. There's nothing in the atmosphere to ignite any organized showers and storms. With a little cold air overhead and as the ground heats up through the morning, a few isolated storms will pop up over the higher elevations, with perhaps one slipping into the Hudson Valley. Certainly nothing to cancel any plans over but if you are outside, just keep your eyes on the sky in case you're one of the chosen few to see some raindrops. Any storms that do fire will bring brief heavy rain and of course, lightning.
Whatever few storms pop up today will wind down as the sun goes down and we'll be left with a familiar night of mild to warm temperatures and some humidity. Lows will range from the upper 50s to 70 degrees.
Tomorrow
As meager as the coverage of showers and storms will be today, they'll be even more so for Fathers' Day. We'll have less clouds dotting the sky and thus temperatures will be a couple of degrees warmer. I can't totally rule out the possibility of an isolated storm or 2 but that's just the way summer days can be, you know the drill.
It'll otherwise be a hot and humid day with highs in the 80s with a few low 90s around.
Next Week
Despite a system rolling through mid-week, we'll stay warm and pretty muggy through Friday.
Monday will be a day like today with heat and humidity helping to pop up a few widely scattered showers and storms. The humidity will be a little bit higher, so we're looking at perhaps a couple more storms but they'll still be few and far between. Highs will top out again in the 80s to 90 degrees.
Of this stretch, Tuesday looks to be the hottest of the days. We'll have a little better coverage of scattered afternoon storms, although they will still be 'scattered' so it's not to be anything a lot of us will get in on. Highs will be in the 80s and low 90s and with the humidity, it'll feel hotter with heat index values in the mid and perhaps upper 90s in the Hudson Valley.
Things will peak out shower-and-storm wise on Wednesday. It'll still be a warm day with highs well into the 80s despite scattered storms around into the afternoon. In the wake of the system that will amble on through later in the day, we'll stay warm to close the week out but it won't be as warm or as humid.
Have a great last few hours of spring!
