SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Vertical Freedom, offered exclusively through Jo-Ann’s Dance Studio – the Performing Arts Centre, reopened July 2 with classes limited to 25-percent capacity and state safety protocols and guidelines in place. Additionally, almost all classes offer an online option and private and semi-private classes are being offered at no extra charge.
“Vertical Freedom is considered a studio, not a gym, and under the governor's latest executive orders we were allowed to reopen,” said Director Tara Faulkner-Catalina. “We are eager to welcome our current clients back as well as new clients to the studio.”
The Vertical Freedom program, located in a 900-square-foot upstairs studio at 4475 South Clinton Avenue, is run seven days a week and features a line up of fitness classes for children and adults, including various levels of Pole, Yoga/Pilates Flow, Hoop, Strength and Conditioning, Chinese-inspired Pole, Pole Choreography, Flexibility and, beginning in August, Yoga. Additionally, Pound, a 45-minute full-body workout class that incorporates slightly weighted drumsticks called ‘Ripstix’ into the workout is also offered as is Pole-Ates (a Pilates mat class using the pole as a stabilizer) and Vertical Barre (based on Pilates and ballet).
With the current healthcare restrictions in place, Vertical Freedom class sizes are limited and participants must bring their own mats and other applicable equipment. Temperature checks will be taken prior to each class, masks are required, and hand sanitizer, gloves, and wipes are available. Additionally, the studio space will be sanitized after each class.
“Class times have been staggered to allow for proper cleaning of the studio space in between sessions,” said Faulkner-Catalina.
For those who do not feel comfortable being with other clients, Vertical Freedom is currently offering one-on-one private lessons at no extra charge.
“So many of our clients continued to support us through this healthcare crisis and this is our way of giving back to them for all their support over the past three and a half months,” said Faulkner-Catalina.
Since the shutdown back in March, Vertical Freedom has offered virtual classes and, according to Faulkner-Catalina, those who wish to continue taking classes via Zoom can continue to do so indefinitely.
“We have no intention at this time of eliminating the online class options. They provide an opportunity for not only our local clients to take part but also for many in other parts of the state and country to join in,” she said.
