STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Consumers may need to wait longer to snag deals during Amazon Prime Day 2020, as published reports suggest the shopping event has been postponed until at least August or later.
Over the last few years, Amazon has launched Prime Day for its members -- typically in mid-July -- to shop new deals and get free shipping. Last year was the longest Prime Day event ever, running for 48 hours from 3 a.m. on July 15 through 2:59 a.m. on July 17.
So when is Prime Day this year?
Amazon hasn’t officially announced the dates for Amazon Prime Day 2020.
Published reports suggest that it won’t arrive until at least August due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, according to internal meeting notes obtained by Reuters. The Wall Street Journal reported the event would take place in September, and Business Insider reported it could happen in October.
CNBC reported that Amazon informed third-party sellers to use the week of Oct. 5 as a placeholder date for Prime Day promotions and coupons, but cautioned to sellers that exact Prime Day dates haven’t been announced. Amazon told CNBC in a statement that it hasn’t made any announcements regarding Amazon Prime Day.
According to Digital Trends, Prime Day 2020 is expected to last 48 hours, with some deals being offered before the official dates.
What deals can we expect?
Like year’s past, deals will be exclusively available for Prime members around the world, and are expected to include televisions, smart home devices, kitchen, groceries, toys, fashion, furniture, appliances and back-to-school supplies.
Prime Day deals typically include discounts on everything from Keurig machines to Macbooks and 4K TVs. Amazon’s own products, like Fire TV Sticks, Fire Tablets, Amazon Echo and Amazon Kindle, typically see their online prices slashed.
Last year’s top sellers included the iRobot Roomba 690 Robot Vacuum, MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener Chamberlain MYQ-G0301, and the Amazon Smart Plug.
During Amazon Prime Day 2019, Amazon offered two free months of HBO with a purchase of the Amazon Fire TV stick. And new Amazon Music Unlimited users, who are also Prime members, were able to get four months for just 99 cents per month.
Prime members pay an annual membership rate of $119 per year, or $12.99 per month. Prime student members pay $59 per year, or $6.49 per month.

While there aren’t any Amazon Prime Day 2020 deals just yet, Amazon typically offers daily deals and other discounts during the year.
