MELBOURNE, Australia -- Nick Kyrgios overcame two match points against Ugo Humbert to book his place in the third round of the Australian Open. Meanwhile, Bernard Tomic was bundled out in straight sets.

Here's how all of the locals fared on Day 3 at Melbourne Park.

Completed matches:

Nick Kyrgios (AUS) def. Ugo Humbert
5-7, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4

Is there anything more box office than Kyrgios on John Cain Arena?

The Aussie had a rollercoaster night against Frenchman Humbert. He spent plenty of time complaining about the let cord -- which he believed was faulty -- saved two match points before prevailing in five gripping sets.

He will now take on reigning US Open champion and third seed Dominic Thiem in a blockbuster third round clash.

Ajla Tomljanovic (AUS) def. by Simona Halep
4-6, 6-4, 7-5

Things don't get much more difficult in women's tennis than a date against Halep, and for two and a half hours on Margaret Court Arena it appeared as though the biggest upset of the 2021 Australian Open could be about to happen.

From the outset, Tomljanovic looked comfortable playing the world No. 2 and often overpowered the Romanian with her fierce baseline striking. After splitting the first two sets, Tomjlanovic found herself with a 5-2 lead in the third and just one game away from what would have been just her second third-round appearance at a Grand Slam.

But Halep, a Wimbledon and French Open champion, refused to throw in the towel. She took advantage of Tomljanovic's nerves to reel off the next five games and book her place in the last 32 at the expense of a visibly distraught Tomljanovic.

Head up, Ajla.

Bernard Tomic (AUS) def. by Denis Shapovalov
6-1, 6-3, 6-2

Tomic ended a four-year Australian Open drought by winning on opening day at Melbourne Park, but the controversial Aussie was totally outclassed in his second round match against 11th seed Shapovalov.

The Canadian simply had too much power for Tomic, bossing the 28-year-old around the court from the opening game of the match. Shapovalov eventually wrapped it up in one hour and 47 minutes.

James Duckworth (AUS) def. by Felix Auger-Aliassime
6-4, 6-1, 6-2

It was a tough afternoon at the office for Duckworth, who fell in straight sets to rising star Auger-Aliassime. Duckworth couldn't force a break point opportunity for the entire match, while his opponent sent down 19 aces to the Aussie's three.

Regardless, Duckworth will be pleased with his tournament after he secured him first main draw win in Melbourne since 2015.

Alex Bolt (AUS) def. by Grigor Dimitrov
7-6, 6-1, 6-2

For a set, Bolt looked every bit a match for 18th seed Dimitrov. Unfortunately, after dropping it in a tiebreaker, the Aussie fell to pieces.

Dimitrov won 12 of the next 15 games on Margaret Court Arena to send the local packing from his home Slam
