SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) – Schools in our area had to decide Thursday whether students would get a snow day or spend the day learning virtually.
Sparta is one of the districts that decided not to take the day off.
As a kid, many of us looked forward to snow days in the winter.
But with Covid, now the tools are in place to learn from home.
The superintendent said the district made the decision to have classes because the pros outweigh the cons.
“It’s the trade-off between keeping the consistency, keeping the learning going, and keeping the known schedule,” said Dr. Amy Van Deuren, Sparta School District Superintendent.
She said another benefit is there will be no make-up days at the end of the school year.
And she got good feedback from teachers and staff members.
Turning each snow day into a virtual day isn’t set in stone for the district, but Dr. Van Deuren said it’s an option worth trying out.
St. Charles, Allamakee, Eastern Allamakee, and Black River Falls school districts also held virtual classes Thursday, as well as the Coulee Region Virtual Academy.
