Fairmont girls team leads Section 2AA golf field after Day 1 - Fairmont Sentinel

NEW PRAGUE — The Fairmont Cardinal girls golf team produced four top-10 individual scores to power its way to a first-place finish during Day 1 of the Section 2AA Meet on Tuesday at the New Prague Golf Club.

Fairmont holds a 15-shot lead — 351-365 — over second-place St. Peter heading into the final round of the sectional meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, back in New Prague.

Le Sueur-Henderson (381) and Southwest Christian of Chaska (382) rounded out the four teams qualifying for Day 2 next Tuesday.

Anika Haugen carded two birdies to pace her personal-best score of 42-41-83 to capture third place overall in topping Fairmont’s winning team performance.

Solveig Senf also recorded a personal-best round with a 44-43-87 to garner fifth place individually for the first-place Cardinals.

Maggy Totzke shot matching 45s on both nine-hole sides to card a 90 — good for eighth overall for Fairmont, while teammate Brynn Gustafson recorded the final counting score with a 45-46-91 to net ninth place individually.

Bailey Martinson carded a 99 and Lauren Davis shot a 105 to round out the Fairmont lineup.

Blue Earth Area’s Kylie Rosenau finished 13th overall with a round of 96 to qualify for second-round sectional play next Tuesday in New Prague.

BEA finished sixth as a team with a total of 425.

Peyton Gudahl took 31st overall with her score of 106 for the Bucs, while Rylan Storbeck shot a 109.

Katelyn Storbeck carded a 114 for the final Buc counting score, while Jordon Smith hit a 117 and Maddie Ehrich shot a 120.

Section 3AA

Fairmont’s boys golf team fell one shot short of advancing to Day 2 during Tuesday’s opening round of the Section 3AA Meet at Oakdale Golf Club near Hutchinson.

Fairmont fired a 333 to place sixth in the team standings, with only five lineups advancing to today’s second round back at Oakdale Golf Club.

New London-Spicer leads the boys’ field with a 310, Minnewaska Area shot a 311, while Marshall, Luverne and Redwood Valley all carded 332s.

Fairmont’s Brock Lutterman and Alexander Moeller did qualify for today’s second round of sectional action by shooting the second-best and sixth-best rounds, respectively, of the non-team golfers to advance.

Lutterman led the Cardinals with his 4-over 39-37-76, including birdies on the par-3 third hole and par-four 17th to complement 11 pars.

Moeller carded an 18-hole mark of 40-41-81 with birdies on hole Nos. 2, 9 and 14 to complement six pars.

Mathew Cone shot a 44-42-86 for Fairmont with a birdie on hole No. 6 to complement six pars.

Jake Harris and Hartley Aust each contributed the final Cardinal counting score with rounds of 90.

Harris penciled in a 46-44-90, including eight pars, while Aust connected for a 41-49-90, highlighted by a birdie on his first hole of the day on No. 1. Aust also made six pars.

Blake Hilgendorf carded a 42-54-96 with five pars to complete Fairmont’s lineup.

Section 2A Meet

Two Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguar girls hit the course during the Section 2A Meet at North Links Golf Course in Mankato on Tuesday.

Amber Steen tied for 22nd place as an individual with her round of 66-59-125 for the Jaguars, while teammate Amelia Heald shot an 82-80-162. Neither golfer advanced to Day 2.

Only two girls during Day 1 of the Section 2A Meet broke the century mark.

New Ulm Cathedral’s Kayla Goblirsch took top honors with a 39-41-80, including a birdie to go with 10 pars, while Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s Nadine Clobes made seven pars and one birdie to pace a second-place round of 39-41-81.

Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton led the team standings with a total of 409, while MVL was second at 431, Cedar Mountain finished third with a total of 467 and Alden-Conger took fourth at 511. Madelia placed fifth with a team total of 518.

Savannah Wyman led the Blackhawk girls with a total of 112, while Katherine DeVlaeminck shot a 133.

Genesis Robles-Moran carded a 135 and Katie Bocock recorded a 138 for Madelia’s final counting score.
