Sick of COVID restrictions? Want freedom? It will come with herd immunity and voluntary cooperation with testing and quarantine. Now that 82% of my kid’s college people are vaccinated, they’ve had zero COVID cases on their campus for over a month. Each week, some of them let themselves be tested randomly for COVID. They ALL adopted ALL the precautions, surveillance, and full quarantine. Now we get to sit at an in-person graduation ceremony. But, social distancing and mask wearing are still mandatory. This is because in the surrounding county there is still a 14-day infection rate of 23.26 cases per 10,000 people. That college has an incredibly diverse mix of opinions and personalities. Yet, they united with common sense for the common good. They stamped out COVID, there. Math skills helped. Logic prevailed. Lately I’ve been wondering, worried: How will today’s kids cope? Reading stories of other people’s lives really helps me with this. Leon Leyson, along with people around him, had his freedoms taken away over the course of several years, starting around age 8. Leon shares how it felt to lose his freedoms. Leon describes his adventures. Leon talks about what freedoms are, what Freedom is. He learned early on what is important. He made a good life, in the long run, once others united to help restore his freedoms, our Freedom. He tells his life story in The Boy on the Wooden Box.
