Here are your Padres’ day three-selections from this year’s draft!

Pick 340 - SS Ryan River, UNC Pembroke

With the 340th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected shortstop Ryan River out of UNC Pembroke. The 6’2, 195-pound River went 5-1 in 2021 with a 3.66 ERA in 17 appearances. He struck out 68 batters and walked 18 through 51 23 innings. As a batter, he hit .349 in 189 plate appearances with 66 hits and nine home runs.

Pick 370 - 2B Marcos Castanon, UC Santa Barbara

With the 370th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected second baseman Marcos Castanon out of UC Santa Barbara. In his final season at UCSB, Castanon hit 15 home runs, 21 doubles, and 40 RBIs in 373 plate appearances

Pick 400 - RHP Kobe Robinson, Chattanooga State CC

With the 400th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected right-handed pitcher Kobe Robinson out of Chattanooga State Community College. (Unfortunately cannot find any recent stats for Robinson.)

Pick 430 - RHP Adam Smith, UNC Wilmington

With the 430th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected right-handed pitcher Adam Smith out of UNC Wilmington. Went 6-1 in 19 appearances with a 2.49 ERA. Struck out 58 in 61 13 innings with three saves.

Pick 460 - 2B Anthony Vilar, Miami

With the 460th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected second baseman Anthony Vilar out of Miami. The 5’10, 186-pound infielder was supposedly drafted as a catcher, according to the Miami Herald. He is coming off a career-worst .275 batting average. However, he was still named a Second-Team All-ACC selection after recording five home runs and 28 RBIs.

Pick 490 - Alek Jacob, Gonzaga

With the 490th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected right-handed pitcher Alek Jacob out of Gonzaga. Went 8-1 in 17 appearances with a 2.52 ERA. Struck out 112 batters in 85 23 innings with 18 walks. Aldo recorded three saves.

Pick 520 - RHP Luke Boyd, Baylor

With the 520th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected right-handed pitcher Luke Boyd out of Baylor. In his final year with the Bears, Boyd was named a First-Team All-Big 12 selection and was picked as a Second-Team All-American by the College Baseball Foundation. He finished with a 1-2 record 24 appearances with eight saves. Struck out 43 in 28 13 innings.

Pick 550 - LHP Gage Jump, JSerra Catholic High School (CA)

With the 550th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected selected left-handed pitcher Gage Jump out of JSerra Catholic High School (CA). Currently, Jump is committed to play collegiately for UCLA and that’s likely where he’s headed after being selected so low in this year’s draft.

Here’s his Perfect Game profile synopsis:

“Gage Jump is a 2021 LHP/OF with a 5-11 180 lb. frame from Aliso, CA who attends JSerra Catholic. Medium athletic build. High leg lift delivery with a good hip turn at the top, very compact arm action in back the really hides the ball well, high 3/4’s arm slot, hitters absolutely do not see the baseball, shows athleticism and repeats his mechanics well. Primary fastball pitcher, worked 90-93 mph with his fastball for two innings, gets high spin rate angle through the zone, will occasionally get under his fastball but got nothing but swing/miss in the zone. Has some spin to his curveball but it is a secondary pitch at present, would be interesting with a fading change up to play off his out pitch fastball. Very high performance left hander who knows his strengths and pitches to them. Good student, verbal commitment to UCLA”

Pick 580 - OF Gabriel Rincones, St. Petersburg College

With the 580th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected outfielder Gabriel Rincones out of St. Petersburg College. In 24 games, the 6’4, 225-pound Rincones recorded a .432 average with four home runs and 28 RBIs along with five stolen bases.

Pick 610 - RHP Chase Burns, Beech HS (TN)

With the 610th pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, the Padres selected right-handed pitcher Chase Burns out of Beech High School in Tennessee. The prep is currently committed to play at UT and that’s where he’s headed after going in the final round of the draft.

From Burns’ Perfect Game profile:

“Chase Burns is a 2021 RHP/2B with a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Gallatin, TN who attends Station Camp. Big and strong athletic build with an especially strong lower half. High leg lift delivery with a high 3/4’s arm slot, explosive arm speed and elite velocity comes pretty easily, stays on line well with his arm and lower half. Upper 90’s fastball, topped out at 99 mph, has gained serious velocity over the last year, found the upper ranges from the stretch as well, fastball is mostly straight but blows past hitters up in the zone. Threw both a curveball and a slider, slider was the much better pitch, late and firm and a potential plus pitch, curveball more an early count get me over pitch he landed successfully. Flashed nice potential on his change up. Mature right hander with elite level raw stuff. Good student, verbal commitment to Tennessee. Named to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.”
