The Indianapolis Colts had ‘Day 3’ of NFL Training Camp on Friday, officially ‘Out of Office’ day per the schedule, and starting quarterback Carson Wentz’s injured foot overshadowed much of the day’s events (*and encompassed all of my self-allotted time for Colts blogging).
However, here’s a quick recap:
Colts' QB Carson Wentz is out indefinitely as he undergoes further testing on a foot injury that he suffered at the end of Thursday's practice, per @MikeWellsNFL and me.
Colts' second-year QB Jacob Eason took the starter reps at today's practice, with Sam Ellinger as his backup.

After Thursday’s practice, Carson Wentz felt a “twinge” in his foot, per OC Marcus Brady, and the team is still evaluating how serious it is.
We’ll see what happens, but wouldn’t be surprised if adding a veteran QB is on the table.

Update on #Colts QB Carson Wentz: He will see noted foot specialist Robert Anderson in the near future, sources tell me and @RapSheet. A firmer timeline for his return will be established at that point. For now, the team is taking solace in Week 1 still being 6 weeks away.

It’s just one practice, but today feels like a big day for Jacob Eason. First extensive run against the first-team defense for the second-year QB.

Recapping Jacob Eason’s day: 13-18 in live team work with a bad INT (Bobby Okereke would’ve turned it into 6). Lacked the downfield aggression you wanna see — a bunch of those were checkdowns, and no real deep shots at all.
But it’s one practice. Lots of days to get better.

Been a heavy check down/screen day for Eason.
Just threw a horrific pick right into the hands of Bobby Okereke. Made several progressions and threw it in between the 5 and 8.

Impressions of Jacob Eason so far today: decent performance overall, but he’s not shown much aggressiveness. Has had some deep routes that he stared down before deciding to check down. Quicker decision making will be a key as he progresses.

First scuffle of camp: WR Michael Pittman got into with S Ibraheim Campbell, and Pittman tossed him to the ground pretty forcefully.

Michael Pittman takes Ibraheim Campbell to the ground in our first camp scuffle.
No USC pretty boy in Pittman. Helmet off and Pittman wasn’t messing around.

Michael Pittman’s been among the most active players on this offense thru three practices. They’re getting him the ball in a bunch of different ways. At least four catches in 11v11 today.

Ben Banogu looked great on that last set of team drills. I counted 3 pressures and probably a sack in less than a dozen plays.
— Jim Ayello (@jimayello) July 30, 2021
And yeah, Ben Banogu has been terrific today. Relentless.

Couple of guys who had good days: Ben Banogu and Kemoko Turay. Hard to gauge sacks in camp, but both guys spent a lot of time in the offensive backfield. #Colts

Paye, Turay and Banogu continue to have good days. Couple of flashes for Rochell and Moore. OTs having a rough day
— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) July 30, 2021
Pretty good period there for Kwity Paye, Kemoko Turay and Ben Banogu. Lot of pressure for all 3
— Joel A. Erickson (@JoelAErickson) July 30, 2021
Kwity Paye with his best pass rush series of camp so far, lined up against Sam Tevi today

Perfect 3-of-3 start for both kickers. Field goals from 33, 42 and 50.
Nice start for Eason today. Little shorter passing game so far.
Strong rushes from Kwity Paye and Kemoko Turay already. Sam Tevi getting starting LT reps today.

Colts kicker battle, Rodrigo vs. Piniero:
They each made their kicks from 33, 42 and 50.

Colts will give rest days to Quenton Nelson, Jack Doyle and TY Hilton.
Carson Wentz isn’t practicing (foot). Will find out more after practice.

Marcus Brady says they are still evaluating things with Carson Wentz and “how bad it is” with his foot.
Hurt it planting on a roll out throw.
Ryan Kelly (elbow) is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Chris Ballard says LT Eric Fisher is "on target" in rehabbing the torn Achilles' he suffered in the AFC Championship. @Colts GM adds there's no timeline right now but there haven't been any setbacks.
