After three days of seeing the number of COVID-19 cases rise well above 500, that number fell back to 431 on Friday. But the rolling seven-day average of new cases stands at 401 — the first time that’s been over 400 since April 12.
There were also three more deaths, the eighth day in a row the Utah Department of Health has reported multiple deaths in a day.
Fewer than 6,000 Utahns were vaccinated against the coronavirus in the past day, bringing the total fully vaccinated to 1.41 million — about 43.4% of the state’s total population. And 1.58 million have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine — about 48.7% of all Utahns.
Note: The Utah Department of Health has announced it will no longer provide COVID-19 updates on weekends and holidays. The next update will be on Tuesday, July 6.
Vaccine doses administered in past day/total doses administered • 5,726 / 2,871,078.
Utahns fully vaccinated • 1,410,274.
Cases reported in past day • 431.
Deaths reported in past day • Three — a Box Elder County man between the ages of 65-84. a Cache County man 45-64, and a Salt Lake County woman 25-44.
Tests reported in past day • 4,182 people were tested for the first time. A total of 7,369 people were tested.
Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 254. That’s three fewer than on Thursday. Of those currently hospitalized, 81 are in intensive care, six more than on Thursday.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 10.3%. That’s about the same as the seven-day average of 10.2%.
The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Thursday’s rate was 5.8%, lower than the seven-day average of 6.8%

Totals to date • 416,110 cases; 2,378 deaths; 17,551 hospitalizations; 2,803,361 people tested.
