More than a week after National French Fry and days after National Ice Cream Day, it's time to pay homage to the hot dog.
While hot dog season officially started during Memorial Day weekend, Wednesday, July 22 is National Hot Dog Day and July is National Hot Dog Month.
A handful of convenience stores chains and other restaurants are offering discounts and freebies on what some have called the "tube steak."
But what will you end up putting on your celebratory hot dog? Mustard or ketchup?
In 2019, Offers.com did a survey to figure out what the favorite topping is and the race was tight.
More than 1,000 people took the survey and 33% reported mustard as their favorite and 30% chose ketchup. Onions was next at 11% and relish had 10%.

Hot dog deals and freebies
Here are discounts and offers available at participating locations Wednesday unless otherwise noted. Offers can vary and most times are offered while supplies last. To be on the safe side, always check with your closest location before heading out. Also, some will require you to have a restaurant's app or be signed up for emails.
7-Eleven: Big Bite hot dogs are $1 Wednesday at the convenience store chain with the 7Rewards app. Through July 31, loyalty members can also get a free medium Slurpee. Learn more about the offer, which has a limit of one per account, at https://ift.tt/2uxbSBq.
Dog Haus: Get a free Haus Dog if you download the chain's app by 11:59 p.m. PT Wednesday, according to Thrillist. You can redeem the freebie through July 31 when ordering for pickup or delivery through the app.
Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores: Get a free hot dog or roller grill item and 50% off a beverage for National Hot Dog Day Wednesday with an offer in the Love's Connect app.
Philly Pretzel Factory: The chain’s pretzel dogs are $1 Wednesday.
Sonic Drive-In: Get $1 hot dogs – the Chili Cheese Coney or All-American Dog – at participating locations Wednesday.
TravelCenters of America: Get two hot dogs for $1 Wednesday.
Wienerschnitzel: Get five Chili Dogs for $5 Wednesday. Also find coupons including one for $1 corn dog at https://ift.tt/2ckp6XP.
More deals: Locally owned businesses and regional chains also may have specials for National Hot Dog Day. One of the easiest ways to find out is to check restaurants' social media channels.
