TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Central Arkansas men's and women's track teams returned to the track for day one of the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday. Due to a rain filled day, only the men's and women's 1,500m were run. Tamara Reeves and Alex Hanson each set a UCA record.
Reeves was in 12th place for the first half of her heat in the 1,500m, but she did not panic and stuck to her race plan. After moving up into eighth place at the start of the final lap, she began to turn on the burners as she flew by the front of the pack and finished nearly a full two seconds in front of second place. She posted the fastest time in UCA history with her 4:28.89 and won her heat. Erin Woodward was in eighth place at the half-way point in heat three. She made her move and gained the top spot. She went on to win her heat with a personal-best time of 4:37.58. Reeves finished 10th overall, while Woodward posted the 22nd-best mark.
On the men's side, Hanson was in ninth place at the 700m mark. He stuck to his race plan and posted a career-best time of 3:49.17. He produced the fastest time in program history and finished seventh in his heat of the 1,500m. Jared Hamilton recorded the 11th-fastest time in his heat of the 1,500m with an effort of 4:00.00. Hanson posted the seventh-fastest mark overall, while Hamilton placed 32nd.
The Bears will be on the track at 11 a.m. on Saturday for the women's 5,000m. Fans can watch tomorrow's races here. Live stats can be found here.
