The City of La Porte’s annual Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater in Fox Park. The La Porte City Band will begin playing at 10:30, followed by the ceremony featuring Mayor Tom Dermody, among other speakers.
In the event of rain, the ceremony will move to the La Porte Civic Auditorium.
The La Porte chapters of the American Legion and VFW organize the ceremony, which traditionally includes presentation of Colors, raising of the flag and a 21-gun salute.
Also Monday, La Porte musician Chuck Steck will play “Taps” at 3 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Walkway in Soldiers Memorial Park, outside the park department building.
