National Comic Book Day brings community members together with comic book deals and movies.
The special day has been going on for around 20 years.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, Hall of Heroes celebrated National Comic Book Day by giving away free comics and holding a drawing to win a CGC graded copy of Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8. Also in celebration of Hall of Heroes’ 16th anniversary, the shop offered 16% off customers’ entire purchase.
“We’ve had a nice steady stream of people come through,” Hall of Heroes owner Michael Shuler said. “So far, we’ve had around 50 people which is pretty good for a Saturday.”
The store also offered black and white and color caricatures for $5 per face or free with a $20 purchase. The caricatures were done by an artist by the name of UGLIpaul or Paul McNeilly, who is Shuler’s brother.
On the other side of the street, the Broadway Theatre did two showing of the 1966 ‘Batman’ movie as a part of a collaboration with Hall of Heroes. The theatre did a 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. showing of the movie. Entry was $3 and added concessions was $5.
The theatre was also selling superhero costumes for $5 which was donated for the event. People could come in before the shows to buy concessions or costumes and weren’t required to see the movie.
