Syracuse, N.Y. — For the first time this year, more than 40,000 walked through the gates of the New York State Fair.
But it wasn’t much more: Fair officials say 41,115 people attended on Sunday, the third day of the 18-day fair. That brings the three-day total attendance to 117,287, which is still less than five single-day records set in past years.
The first three days of this year’s fair are among the lowest single-day attendance figures.
Lingering fears of the coronavirus are likely the cause of the unusually low numbers this year. Fair organizers also opened the state fair five days earlier than it typically has in recent years.
