ATHENS, Ohio-- The Ohio football team wrapped up day 12 of fall camp on Wednesday morning in Walter Fieldhouse. After practice, we caught up with redshirt senior safety Michael Ballentine to ask how his camp is going.

One of the biggest challenges in camp is to stay healthy. Ballentine said that strength and conditioning coach Jake Miller has helped him and his teammates stay on the field for practice.

"I have some little bangs and bruises, but mostly coach Miller has been doing a great job helping us throughout our recovery days and stretch out," Ballentine said. "That's been a real big factor in getting our body right, it's been great for us."

Now in his fifth training camp, Ballentine said that the mental aspect of training camp has become easier as he gained more experience.

"You start getting used to the process of waking up every morning and the flow of everything," Ballentine said. "I don't know if it gets easier on your body as much, but it definitely gets easier on your mind."

A goal entering the season for Ballentine was to put on weight before the season. He is looking to be bigger, stronger and faster in 2021.

"My main goal was to put on muscle weight, so I tried to put on about 15 pounds to hep maintain my body weight when it came to camp time," he said. "We're running so much and doing so much activity that it makes it easier to maintain body weight."

Ballentine played in two games in 2020 and in eight games in the full 2019 season. Over the last two seasons, he has recorded eight tackles. This season he wants to make plays on the field wherever the team needs him.

"My personal expectations would be just make an impact in any way I can, whether that be on special teams or on the field if needed," Ballentine said. "For the team, the MAC Championship is always out goal, and we want to go to a bowl game too."
