Triolet and Mattice Top CU Performers on Day Two of Don Richards Invite - Clarkson Golden Knights

Rochester, NY – Sophomore Bella Triolet and freshman Cooper Mattice headlined the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving program on day two of the Don Richards Invitational as the Golden Knights closed out the second and third sessions of the annual event held at RIT.

The Golden Knights' men took second out of five teams with 627 points, behind only RIT (1590.5) but ahead of Skidmore College (588.5), Bard College (103), and St. Lawrence University (25) while the women ended up narrowly in third with 590 points trailing only RIT (1155) and Skidmore (638) but in front of William Smith College (411.5), St. Lawrence (354.5), and Bard (98).

Triolet finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:02.26) and then ended up in fourth in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.82) and 200 backstroke (2:15.28), the only Clarkson swimmer across the board to finish in the top five in three events on Saturday. Senior Taylor Lee also had a pair of top five showings, taking fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.58) and fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.16). Maddie Nowicki also had a strong day with three top-six finishes, coming in third in the 400 individual medley (4:56.91), sixth in the 1650 freestyle (19:09.02), and fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:24.36).

Freshman Gabriela McSwieney also had a solid effort, coming in sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:03.03), fourth in the 1650 freestyle (19:00.51), and then eighth in the 100 freestyle (56.51). Senior Amelia Kanner ended up in fourth in the 400 individual medley (4:58.41) and sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.53), while classmate Paige Fronczak had a pair of top-seven showings, coming in third in the 100 freestyle (54.84) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:04.07). Finally, Grace Girard had a pair of top five-showings with a fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:22.82) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.22). Kaili Sacco also came in sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:03.25) and Rachel Mietlicki was ninth in the 1650 freestyle (19:27.47).

Clarkson's 200 medley relay team was third in 1:54.81 thanks to the group of Triolet, Lee, Sacco, and Fronczak and then the 400 freestyle relay closed out the meet with a third-place finish in 3:43.96 as Triolet, McSwieney, Lee, and Fronczak combined for the effort.

On the men's side, Cooper Mattice was the top performer, taking third in the 100 backstroke (54.99) and fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:00.07). Classmate Calvin Woolfolk had a pair of sixth-place showings, finishing the 100 breaststroke (1:02.15) and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.05). Tristan Miranda, another freshman, also had two top-10 finishes, coming in fifth in the 1650 freestyle (17:48.28) and ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.13), while fellow first-year collegian Michael Schroeder came in fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:02.27), fifth in the 100 butterfly (53.73), and sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.01).

There were a few other swimmers with multiple top-10 showings, as Nicholas Lamy was sixth in the 200 butterfly (2:08.41) and 10th in the 100 butterfly (57.21), Colin Urmaza came in seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:39.36) and eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.85). A handful of other swimmers ended up in the top 10 in one event, led by Luke St. Amour's sixth-place showing in the 1650 freestyle (18:44.61) and Nicholas Miller in the eighth-spot in the 100 freestyle (49.37). Jack Kelly took ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.61). Vincent Reino also was ninth in the 100 backstroke (58.38) and was followed by Tim Jordan in 10th (58.46) while Guillermo Barrios came in 10th in the 200 freestyle (1:52.38). Thomas Schuyler also came in fourth among eight divers in the 1-meter with a score of 286.50.

Clarkson's relays also performed well as the 200 medley relay team of Mattice, Kelly, Schroeder, and Miller combined for a time of 1:41.11 and Mattice, Tim Jordan, Kelly, and Miller finished the 400 freestyle relay in 3:21.57.
