TUCSON, Ariz. - The Oregon State softball team totaled 11 hits throughout the day's doubleheader but it wasn't enough as No. 9 Arizona sealed both victories, Saturday.

The Beavers offense combined for four home runs in one day of play. Sophomore Frankie Hammoude knocked two balls out of the park with junior Missy Nunes and freshman Charity Sevaaetasi hitting one each.

Game one vs. Arizona - L, 9-5

Junior pitcher Mariah Mazon started the defensive game with two strikeouts in the bottom of the first inning.

The Beavers' first hit of the game was a home run to center field from Nunes. After redshirt-freshman Bailey McLaughlin drew a walk to get on base, Sevaaetasi hit her fifth home run of the season to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Hammoude knocked another ball out of the park in the third for another two runs.

The fourth remained quiet for both teams with Mazon adding a strikeout in the bottom of the inning.

Mazon doubled to start the hitting in the fifth but each of the following OSU batters had their connections caught in the air before she was able to score.

The Wildcats answered the Beavers' early home runs with two of their own to tie the score before the end of the fifth. Arizona added a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to seal their 9-5 victory.

The Oregon State batters combined for eight hits with the pitchers - Mazon and senior Nerissa Eason - notching five strikeouts.

Game two vs. Arizona - L, 10-2

Once again, the Beavers scored first as Hammoude hit her second home run of the day for Oregon State's only two runs in the second game.

Senior pitcher Trystan Melancon continued the Beavers' great beginning with three strikeouts in the bottom of the first.

After a quiet second inning, freshman Xiao Gin singled to shortstop to start the third. Sophomore Maia Rader followed with a bunt but she reached first as Arizona chose to grab the out at second. After stealing second, Rader advanced to third on a fly ball by Sevaaetasi but the Wildcats notched the final out before she was able to score.

The bottom of the third began with an Arizona home run to bring the game to a one-run difference.

The Wildcats took the 10-2 victory after a triple and three home runs gave them a 6-2 lead in the fourth with a final grand slam earning the final four runs in the fifth.

In just over three innings, Melancon struck out five batters before Gin took to the mound for the final strikeout of the game.

The Beavers will close their four-game series against the Wildcats with one final game at 12 p.m. tomorrow (Mar. 28).
