Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets are finished at home for the spring, and are close to wrapping up spring training games and heading into the season. Jonathan Villar is day-to-day after experiencing groin discomfort, and manager Luis Rojas said that he could play as early as Monday.

The Mets will travel to Jupiter the next two days to take on the Marlins today at 1:05 pm ET and the Cardinals at 12:05 pm EDT on Tuesday to close out spring training 2021 before heading back to New York this week.

According to Mojo Hill of Metsmerized, Luis Rojas said that Jonathan Villar is day-to-day after feeling something in his groin during infield drills the other day. Rojas said he’ll see if Villar is able to play Monday and go from there.

Pablo Sandoval has made the Atlanta Braves’ opening day roster, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today. In a corresponding move, the Braves released veteran infielder Jason Kipnis.

The Yankees are adding Jay Bruce to their opening day roster, per Jack Curry of YES Network.

According to MiLB-Transactions, the Milwaukee Brewers have re-signed right-handed pitcher Jordan Zimmerman to a minor league contract.

Per Linsey Adler of The Athletic, Yankees first baseman Luke Voit had an MRI Friday on his knee and has a partial meniscus tear. Manager Aaron Boone said Voit will have the meniscus tear “cleaned up” and will be out of baseball activity for at least three weeks.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Chicago Cubs have sent down infielder Nico Hoernnner, pitchers Pedro Strop, Shelby Miller, Brad Wieck and Trevor Megill and outfielder Rafael Ortega. They also released veteran outfielder Cameron Maybin.

Per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, Bob Melvin told Jed Lowrie that he has made the Oakland Athletics’ opening day roster. According to NBC Sports EDGE Baseball, he will be the Athletics’ everyday second baseman.

Per the New York Yankees PR department, the Yankees have made the following roster transactions:

  • Released catcher Robinson Chirinos and infielder Derek Dietrich from their minor league contracts.
  • Signed first baseman/outfielder Jay Bruce to a major league contract and selected him to the 40-man roster.
  • Placed right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow strain.

Per Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post, the Washington Nationals have optioned outfielder Carter Kieboom to Triple-A to begin the season. They also made the following roster transactions on Saturday:

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times discusses Trevor Bauer hosting a bullied boy at a Dodgers game. “That is a story I identify with,” Bauer said.

Kyle Lewis’ knee is not progressing as he or the Seattle Mariners would’ve hoped, according to Daniel Kramer MLB.com. It appears his opening day status is “in jeopardy.”

According to Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore Orioles announced that they have designated Yolmer Sanchez for assignment to make room for Adam Plutko, who was acquired from the Indians. This leaves the Orioles without an everyday second baseman.
