FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Oregon State softball split games against Northern Colorado and Colorado State on the second day of the Colorado Classic.

The Beavers opened the day with a 5-0 victory over Northern Colorado (UNC) but fell to Colorado State (CSU), 4-3, shortly after.

Game one vs. Northern Colorado - Won, 5-0

Junior pitcher Mariah Mazon struck out the first UNC batter she faced. She totaled three strikeouts in the first two innings.

Sophomore Frankie Hammoude hit the first single of the game in the bottom of the second but the Beavers were unable to capitalize with a runner on base.

Two innings after making a connection for the first hit of the game, Hammoude hit a home run to give Oregon State a 1-0 lead at the end of the fourth inning.

Northern Colorado held off the Beavers in the fifth inning but could not handle the OSU hitting streak in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Maia Rader drew a walk before freshman Madison Simon reached on an error and Mazon hit a single for an RBI. With runners on first and third and no outs, Hammoude connected for her third hit, in as many plate appearances, for a second RBI in the sixth. Junior Missy Nunes and freshman Charity Sevaaetasi each hit a double as Oregon State entered the final inning with a 5-0 lead.

The Beavers notched three-straight outs to hold on for the 5-0 shutout victory.

Mazon pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts.

Game two vs. Colorado State - Lost, 4-3

Simon connected for the first of Oregon State's four hits during her first plate appearance. The Rams were not fazed by her quick hit and they held off the Beavers, leaving one runner on base.

Both the first and second innings went by quickly; each half had just three or four batters.

Sophomore Ashton Zeiher hit a single to start the third inning before freshman Xiao Gin drew a walk. With both Zeiher and Gin on base, Rader hit a double as the Beavers earned a 2-0 lead.

Colorado State answered with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Down 4-2, Oregon State attempted to capitalize on the Rams' pitches but was unable to gain a hit until the sixth inning.

After reaching first base on a fielder's choice, Zeiher scored when Gin hit a triple to right field.

Though the Beavers made it a one-run game, Colorado State held strong as OSU fell, 4-3.

Senior pitcher Trystan Melancon grabbed three strikeouts in 2.1 innings before Mazon pitched the final 3.2 innings.

The Beavers return to action tomorrow for their final Colorado Classic game against Northern Colorado.
