In the pentathlon, Mathilde Rey equaled two personal bests and finished in ninth place with 4,126 points. Both Vollmer and Rey qualified for last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Vollmer's score is a day-one career best, surpassing his previous-high output of 3,218 point from the 2020 MPSF Championships. He went on to post a personal best of 5,834 points at that meet.
After a season-best time of 6.98 in the 60 meters, Vollmer posted back-to-back personal bests in the long jump and shot put. He began the surge with a mark of 7.11m/23-4 on his final attempt in the long jump. Vollmer moved to the shot put where he had a best of 15.82m/51-11, another round-three mark. All three of his attempts in the shot put eclipsed his previous personal best.
Vollmer closed out his day with a clearance of 1.85m/6-0.75 in the high jump, an effort worth 670 points.
In her first event of the day, Rey posted a time of 8.97 in the 60-meter hurdles to equal her personal best in the event. She followed with a season-best clearance in the high jump, getting over the bar set at 1.75m/5-8.75 which pushed her score to 1,832 points through two events. At the midpoint, she had a best effort of 11.89m/39-0.25 in the shot put.
Rey posted her second PR-tying mark of the day in the long jump. On her second attempt, she got out to the 5.83m/19-1.5 mark to match her personal best first established at last year's Razorback Invitational. In the final event, she moved from 10th to ninth in the overall standings with a time of 2:18.63 in the 800 meters. In a sign of the close competition, just 47 points separated places six through nine.
Up Next: Day two of the heptathlon begins at 8 a.m. (PT) with the 60-meter hurdles and concludes at 11:45 a.m. with the 1,000 meters. Friday's schedule also features separate sessions for the men's and women's events. The men's preliminary round begins at 12 p.m. with the women's prelims to follow at 5 p.m.
For the Ducks, the day-two program also includes the final of the women's 5,000 meters (Hannah Reinhardt) and both distance-medley relays. The meet will be streamed live on ESPN3.
